Question: AS, POP and preferred room

Hey all,

I have two questions regarding my upcoming WDW trip that I am currently planning:

- We will be staying at a value hotel (I know, we are cheap, that happens when you go every month to DLP, bwahaha!). Is there any particular reason one would choose for an AS instead of POP, other than theming (about which I could care less)? I saw on the WDW-site that POP is a little cheaper, so I tend to book that hotel, but if every one says: NOOOOOO!!! go for AS instead because THIS good reason, I will rethink my choice :)

Btw, I realize everyone has his/her favourites. I don't care what themeing the pool has (as long as it has clean water and no alligators in it) or what themeing the outside of the building has (as long as the rooms are clean). To me, things like being clean, not too far a walk, price, sound-isolation of rooms, ... are more important.
We will be there from October 24 until November 1 (dates in case some troops for a special event swarm the hotels, lol!)

- Is there any particular reason why we would want "preferred" rooms at POP or AS? What is special about them? (btw, we won't be there by car, so no need to be close to parking lot. it will be two adults, my mom and I, so also no kiddies to drag around at the end of the day)

Thank you very much for your help!!

 Hi!

POP is not actually cheaper, so it may have been that on the Disney site AS only had a preferred room location available. That site is tricky becasue it rarely starts with the least expensive room available at a resort - must click on the type of room wanted.

As for the resorts, I prefer POP - the lake gives it a nice feeling and is pretty as either a view or to walk around. Also from several room location the tops of IlumiNations can be seen as well as MJK firworks in the distance.

I prefer the understated room decor at POP (all those stars in the not yet refurbsihed rooms at AS!).

POP does not share a bus.

Preferred rooms are less of a walk to the bus/food court/lobby, but many can be a hike to a car if you'll have one. Really, no room is more than 5 mins from food court etc. It just feels far at the end of a long day! :)

Clean really depends on the housekeeper in your area - most rooms in AS (Music was refurbished last yr) and POP need a good fresh painting, and the wear and tear of being a popular resort is showing now, but have read many reports that rooms were very clean. we've not had that experience the last 2 visits.

Here is a map of POP prerred room locagtions:

Hope this helps and have a great stay! :)

All of the rooms at All Star Music have just been refurbished.

They stared last summer (2006) and just finished redoing them June (2007).

DH and I stayed in a refubished room at All Star Music last September (2006).
We loved new look.
They even added a privacy cutain dividing the sleeping area from the vanity area so you can use it like a mini dressing room.

The mods also have this curtain but Music is the first value to get them.

Here is a website with photos of the newly refurbished rooms at All Star Music.

Look at the Jazz Inn section with new posted:

Thanks a lot!

After hearing about the refurbed rooms at AS Music, we might stay in that one.
All this planning just gives me a headache, lol! But I know the rewards will be big once I'm there :)

Do you know if the Broadway section has already been refurbed?

Tell me about it!!! I'm the one doing the planning for our trip to DW and it's becoming a major headache!

Yes, the Broardway building were finished late last fall. The last section they were working on was the Country buildings. I know one of the Country is finished and I think they both are.

If so the all of the rooms at All Star Music have been refubished.

So that you can see how the layout for each resort is. Personally I prefer All-Stars. All-Stars has less rooms than Pop. Pop has 4 story buildings and All-Stars has 3 floors. Less people, less crowds. Less people, less time waiting for buses. Less people, less noise. Pop is great. though I hate the parking. But too many of the rooms have gone preferred that were not preferred a year ago. Only the 60's building were preferred originally but since so many of us requests the 50;s and the 70's Pop made them preferred too. A rip-off. Parking at Pop is just bad. By looking at the maps you can see the difference. At Music everywhere is good(well Country can be a nice walk). Not thrilled that the easiest way from the 90's building to the buses is by walking through a parking lot at Pop.

Great thing about Disney they have a resort for everyone. I'm glad we all like different things otherwise everyone would be at the same resort.

Can you believe that I didn't sleep well last night? I have been thinking the whole time: what should I do, POP or AS Music???

Theme-wise, I think I'd prefer the AS Music, but since we would like to participate in one of those fridge-swap things, I think we better stay at Pop.
And I wonder why this is such a decision, since we are only in our rooms to shower and sleep! Usually, we never even see the pool, lol :)

What oh what should I choose? Maybe I should just pull a straw??

Thank you, I am sure I will.

I asked for a room in the Broadway-section, because I am a big musical-fan, but I'll be happy with whatever room. I am not that difficult :)
