Question - Applying expired ticket value to a new ticket

I purchased two, 5-day PH tickets prior to the price increase this past February. According to the listing of these tickets in my MDE app, these tickets expire on January 14, 2019 and it's possible we may not use one of the tickets before the expiration date. I believe I read I can still apply the original value of this unused ticket to a new ticket once the original expires - is that correct? And, if this is correct, does anyone know if I will be able to do this by phone once the ticket expires? Or would I need to do it at a guest services window when we go on another trip next year? Thanks for any info!

You are correct. Officially, you’ll have to process this in person at the park. However, if you purchased the tickets directly and separately from Disney (they weren’t part of a package), then you’ll likely be able to do this over the phone if you can get the right folks from the ticketing department on the line.

This is from the ticket sticky at the top of this forum:

VALUE of EXPIRED TICKETS:
Tickets currently being sold will expire if not first-used on or before Dec. 31, 2019.

However, if this ticket is never used by a guest and allowed to expire,
the purchase price of the ticket is not "lost" to the guest.
The unused and expired ticket can be turned in at WDW and its original purchase price can be applied to the purchase of a new ticket.

As noted above, best to call to see if this can be done over the phone or if it has to be done in person.

Thank you both! Ah, yes, the ticket sticky - I've been around here long enough to know I should check there first, LOL! The tickets were purchased separately through UT in February. Over the past few years, I've been a bit of a pre-price-increase ticket hoarder and it may not work to my advantage this year. Darn WDW and their new ticket expiration dates! Thanks again for responding!

The problem I was concerned about was not being able to get fastpasses with an expired ticket on MDE. If you can do it by phone you're probably okay but if you have to wait til you get there you won't have any fastpasses

Can I upgrade my existing tickets and reset the expiration date?

I have tickets that will expire in Feb 2019 but we don’t plan to be back in the parks until Star Wars GE opens in Dec 2019.

Can I change these tickets to a ‘newer’ batch (adding a day) before they expire so at least i’ll have them linked in our MDE and we can reserve fast passes and we don’t need to go to guest relations when we arrive?

1. Yes.
2. When and from whom did you buy the tickets?
3. Yes. Although, the procedure appears to be in a state of flux right now.

These tickets were part of the Magic your way free dining package we did this past summer. We already have annual passes but had to buy a 2 day park hopper to qualify for the free dining.

They are set to expire early 2019.

We don’t plan to renew our passes when they come up next month but plan to try and use these ticket credits next year for Galaxy Edge.

Then, my answers 1. & 3. In post 7 do apply.

You MIGHT be able to upgrade the tickets in your MDX account, but that option seems to be “iffy” at the moment.

Hijacking this thread with my question because it seems fitting here. I have an unused 1 day MK ticket that expires at the end of this year. Can that be put towards a special event ticket such as MNSSHP?

If the current ticket is NOT YET expired, that is unlikely (unless the party ticket costs MORE than the current ticket. (Even then, it may be unlikely.)

If the current ticket IS expired, then it MIGHT be that its original price can be applied to any new ticket purchase.
We have not yet encountered any expired tickets at this point, so we don't have anything by which to judge.

Thanks for chiming in, Robo! I forgot we haven't encountered expired tickets yet. I'll try to remember to report back next year when I try to apply the value of the expired ticket towards a new one.
