Question about when to go

We were scheduled to go to DW this next June of 16 but due to some financial issues and other things we are going to have to cancel. We have been 4 times but only once was in the "summer" in that we went in May the first time but every other time we went in Oct or November which to me is the PERFECT time both weatherwise and because of the holidays. However now both my kids are in HS and can't miss school. I don't want to go Thanksgiving week or during XMAS break so that leaves President's Week. My kids get the entire week off school in February around President's day. How bad is it? I am sure it is worse than just a normal week during off season but compared to summer and the other holidays do you think this is doable? I know it will be somewhat crowded but am hoping that it would be not as bad as the others.

Also if we went in Feb of 17 will the AK stuff be done by then or is it not slated to be done till summer of 17? I know they said 17 but couldn't remember when exactly and I am wondering if we would be better off waiting till Feb of 18?

TIA for any help!!!

President's week is very, very busy. I would pick early summer if that's an option.

Thanks I was looking around on the net and I see that. It is sad because it didn't use to be that way but what else is new. This year we were going to go right after school got out. Like the 2nd week of June. I have heard that is bad too? My kids get out of school this year on like the 2nd but next year and the year's following don't get out till like the 8th. I am so at a loss. It has been so long since we have gone but since they can't miss school I really don't know WHEN we could go that it would not be miserable. This really sucks. It is a HUGE expense for us to go since we live in CA and so I don't want to go and have a lousy time because of horrible crowds and weather. Man I just don't know what to do. :(

Presidents Week is crowded but the weather will be so much better than in June, which will also be crowded.

Personally I would go for Presidents Week if those were my two options. The crowds are far more bearable in the cooler weather and you won't have the crazy daily storms and lightning, so you will have more time to get things done.

We are in the same boat now that we are tied to school schedules and don't want to take the kids out anymore.

What about the week AFTER New Years. Like the first week of January?? My kids usually get off till like the 5th or 6th of January so if we stayed over a few extra days they could probably miss 2 days or so of school. Is that still bad because a lot of people have that much time after the holiday? Just trying to think of other options. THANKS!!

You mean for Jan 2017 right?

That one's interesting, New Years Day falls on the Sunday, so I wonder if a lot of kids will go back on the Monday, or maybe Tuesday? That could be a good week. The first week in January 2016 looks to be decent on the crowd calendars.

Actually I was't thinking about this January because my mom is having knee surgery next month. I was thinking Jan of 17. NYE is on a Sat and NY on Sunday. I was thinking if we flew in on the 31st or 1st that we could go all that week and into the following week. They don't have to go to school till the 10th so I was thinking they could take off through the 13th. I think MOST kids would have to go back to school on that Monday the 2nd or possibly a few days later but not sure how schools do it. I know they like to give the kids 2 weeks off and since xmas falls later they probably would go to school up through the 23rd. Man it is so tough!

I would think most kids on a traditional school calendar would be going back on the 2nd or 3rd, the way Christmas and New Years fall that year. You would probably be in good shape that week in terms of crowds, at least based on the 2016 crowd calendars. :)

That's what I was thinking/hoping. I don't know how schools back there do it but out here if xmas falls close to a weekend they move the break up till almost the day. it all depends on how it falls. If they get a full week before xmas and the week OF xmas then they would go back right after new years but when it falls late like that they give them extra after new year's. And then for us they get extra time because of teacher work days and such. Thanks again for all the input and we have to really sit down and do our homework LOL
