Question about WDW Kennels

We will be staying 9 days this summer at the BWV and will have to kennel our dog(a 55 lb. Bull Terrier) either at our vet or at WDW. I have read that the kennels at WDW are small. Does any one have any pictures or past experiences that will assist me in my decision? I like my vet's facility but have a hard time being away from my dog for such a long period.

I dont have a picture of the kennels, but just as a heads up you are responsible for walking and feeding your dog. I don't believe it's like a reg. kennel where they actually take care of the dog for you. WDW is more just like a space for the dog to be while you are in the parks.

My data is a little out of date, since it has been a long time since I was at Disney (10 years), but at that point, the kennels were just a cage - stacked 2 high I believe. Some where larger than others (ie, double size). We would kennel our Irish Setter & mixed breed. The Setter was probably in the range of 80 - 90lbs, and she had enough room to stand, turn around etc, but not much else. We actually ended up having the two dogs in one cage once, since the mixed breed was very unhappy on her own (she was smaller - maybe 40lbs...).

You are responsible for walking & feeding your dogs, so if you are going that route make sure you have someone who doesn't mind leaving the park in the middle of the day to tend to the dogs needs, as well as a morning and evening walks.

I always found it hard going in to get the dogs for the walks - all the dogs start barking and getting so excited each time you walk in - our little mixed breed of course was the loudest and most frantic... I know they didn't like going back into the cage, but I'm sure it was better for them knowing you are there rather than being left on there own for a week or two.

I hope that helps.

sorry I though I had pictures of 2 Germany Shephards in one of these cages - but I guess I just didn't take it.

Spicey stays in the kennel at FW. I go walk and feed him 3 to 4 times a day. He is 18 years old and I won't have him many more years - so our time together is worth it for me. I am also a DVC owner so this probably has more to do with - I know I will be back to WDW.

fw kennel hours are 7:30 am to 8:00pm - the theme parks kennel are generally an hour before they open to an hour after they close.

both FW and Epcot have nice walking areas close to the kennel.

Studios and AK does not.

the MK is at TTC - Spicey being a cat does not like loud noises - the buses go behind this kennel and they are very noisey. Otherwise this would also be a good location.

He stays there often and was just there - so ask any questions. I have some pictures of him - but he is a cat and the cat cages are SMALL. Oh by the way doesn't matter if dog or cat - $9 for overnight WDW resort guest, $11 for overnight off-site guest, $6 for day visitors.

I have some pictures (I think) of the dog kennel - but you can't compare their size without dogs in them. The ones on the bottom are quite large.

Some of the dogs barked everything I took Spicey for a walk - some others just about cried.

Some people though walking their dog once each day was enough - the dogs certainly didn't feel that way.....

Epcot had a program (I think it is the only one so far) - $2.50 for a walk each day - so they could walk it once a day - then you could walk in the morning and at night. - So not so much of your park time would be gone.

We have used the kennel at Epcot several times for our 120lb dog with no problems!! They will walk your dog there for a fee. (they do feed them also)
You can come and visit or walk them also.
