Question about waiting list and switching ressies...

...Sorry if this has been discussed before, but I'm brand new to DVC and the DIS. (I tried reading lots of threads, but wow, there's just so much info - it's a bit dauting for a newbie!)

We are new owners of AKV, and have booked a vacation at our home resort for next July. (One week in a 2BR (with family) followed by 2 nights in a 1BR (just DH and I.) But truthfully, we really want to stay at BCV. First, is there really any chance to call at the 7 month point and actually get a room(s) at BCV for the middle of July? And if not, can we be wait listed there, and just have our ressies switched when/if a room comes available? Or do we have to surrender our first reservation to be wait listed at another resort?

I'm also a newbie and I've asked the same question and was told that yes, you can make reservations at your home resort at 11 months and then try to change the reservation(or part of it) at 7 months. The same for wait listing.
Very good news because like you, I was worried about giving up a home resort reservation and then ending up with nothing that I really wanted
I am also very excited to be a member but we'll not make it back over until summer 2009

I tried to get 2-br at BCV so many times at the 7 month frame (our first home resort was SSR) and could never get one. Waitlisted until the last minute and still couldn't get one. So I gave up and bought BCV points also. I think that some of it depends on luck, the timeframe of when you want to go and the villa size you want to get.
