Question about very late check in

Hi there,

We are checking in really late on Dec 1 to Pop Century. When I say late I mean REALLY late. Our flight does not even land until 10:30 (if it's one time), we have no checked luggage but we'll have to get our rental car and then find somewhere to get our AP's activated before we check in.

What happens if this takes us into the wee hours of morning? Do we lose our reservation because we are not there on Dec 1, because technically 3 in the morning if it came to that would be Dec 2 ?

Thanks!
Sheri

I don't think you'll be able to activate your APs anywhere that late. I think DTD guest relations would be closed by the time you would get there. Sometimes they don't even ask to see the AP at check-in. With it being that late, if they do ask to see it, show them the voucher and they may or may not tell you to bring it back once activated the next day. So you should be able to scratch that part of the "running around" off your list.

For your late check-in, just call and have them notate it on the reservation as a late check-in and that should take care of that.

You'll be surprised how many other people will be checking in late.

Don't worry about the AP, I've never been asked to show anything and I've never heard of a voucher being refused.

When will I have to show them the activated voucher? The next day, early? Should I go and have it activated and then come back to the hotel before going to the park?

So if I call and say I will be there late, I won't lose the ressie, but will I lose the AP rate on that day since my AP won't be activated until the next day?

Thanks all,
Sheri

You may not have to show it all. This is one of those areas where it depends on the CM checking you in. If someone asks you to come back with the activated AP, just ask them when. They might just tell you the next night (after you've done all your park stuff). I very seriously doubt they would ask you to come back and show them as soon as you've activated it. I had a voucher for my August trip with an AP rate booked and they never asked to see anything. We couldn't even activate that day anyway because everything was closed (hurricane Charley). I can almost guarantee the AP voucher vs. actual pass is a non-issue.

So if I call and say I will be there late, I won't lose the ressie, but will I lose the AP rate on that day since my AP won't be activated until the next day?

No you won't lose the AP rate. Since you don't have to stop to activate the AP, you will probably be checking in around 11:15-11:30, depending on how long it takes to get your rental, assuming no flight delays. Like I wrote before, I think you should have them notate a late check-in and that's it.

May I throw a different spin on things? We did this last January.

We were on the Song flight from BOS to MCO that landed close to 11.

I Pricelined a 3* hotel in the MCO area (got it for $37). We called for the hotel shuttle to come get us, and were in our beds before midnight. We got up the next morning, DH jumped in the shower, and took the shuttle back to MCO to pick up the rental, and then got DS and I. We saved about $100 on our hotel room for the night, and save a day's rental charge as well.

We checked in, ran a couple errands (groceries, and Walgreens to replace DS's script that I forgot) and were in our cabin getting ready to head to MK by 1:30.

Just something else to think about.....

We've already paid for our room for the night of Dec 1 so I really don't want to lose it. We did it this way because we only have 4 park days.

So basically, if I notate to them that I will be checking in, possibly after midnight with an AP voucher ahead of time, I'll be okay?

Sorry for all the questions, I'm just really concerned because I was reading a thread where someone did not show up on their check in date and lost their ressie. :(

I know which thread you mean, but yours is a totally different situation. Even if you arrive at like 2 am on Dec 2, it is still considered a Dec 1 arrival because you have to sleep in a room for the night.

I recall that thread as well. You're room is guaranteed until 6AM the next day, as that is when the computer turns over for the next day check-ins. You wont' have to tell them you only have an AP voucher, it won't be a problem. If you check-in and the CM EVEN asks, you can produce your voucher. Usually the voucher is enough, but if it isn't, as it will be after midnight and all Park Guest Services locations will be closed, you'll just have to show the activated AP sometime the next day. You won't have to rush out to the park and rush back to show them the activated AP, just probably before evening. Don't worry, and relax!
