Hi,

I am not a vacation club member. Can you tell me how many points you would have to have to stay at the contemporary 14 days a year?

I don't have a point chart in front of me, but it takes about the same amount of points to stay in a Comtemparory standard hotel room as it does to stay in a two bedroom villa at OKW, .

Which is better? two weeks in a COntemparory standard hotel room or those same two weeks in an Old Key West two bedrom villa that has the ability to sleep 8, full kitchen, washer and dryer, and about three or four times the floor space?

THis is why the vast majority of members do not use points to stay at WDW resorts. It is a nice option to have for rare occaisional use, but the value returned from staying at DVC resorts far exceeds the value received staying at other WDW resorts.

Using DVC points to stay exclusively in WDW resorts is not a very good use of points. The option is there to let folks experience the hotels when they want a change from the DVC resorts and/or if they have a hard time giving up an old favorite. As Rich suggests, you should explore the many DVC options now available at WDW. They all offer a much more luxurious vacation experience than a hotel room.

That said....answering your question is difficult because there are different point amounts for different times of the year and for Su-Th vs. Fri-Sat. This year they have also added different levels of views and service for the WDW resorts. To give you an idea I'll use a stay during the Regular Season staying in the Tower. Regular Season for 2002 is 4/21-7/3 and 10/3-11/2. We'll start your stay on Sunday. The total is 584 points. As Rich mentioned, a 2 bedroom at OKW (using April as an example) would run you 519 points.

To stay in a one-bedroom at VWL during some of that same time (seasons are different) would cost 480 points.

The answer to your question depends partly on when you would go for those 14 days, but depending on season, 14 days at the Contemporary would range from 412-602 points in a standard view wing and from 602-824 points for a tower room.

As Rich pointed out- for that many points you could easily stay in a 1 or 2BR villa at OKW, BWV or VWL and enjoy superior accommodations.

The non-DVC resorts provide a nice option for using DVC points, but would be a very expensive use of the program and probably NOT very cost effective.

You might want to try a stay at a DVC resort before deciding how to use the points.

Enjoy!
