Question about upgrading to an AP

We are going to Disney March 24-31. I bought 5 day MYW plus water parks tickets. If I was to want to upgrade to an AP, would I be able to use my pluses on my original ticket? Or would I have to buy a PAP? There is a decent difference in the price.

What kind of discount do you get on Disney resorts with an AP? I am trying to decide if it would be worth it to us. I'd like to stay at a moderate resort next time we go.

Depends on the season Can be up to 40%. I use it a lot.
