Question about upgrading MYW tickets to AP's

First question: I can only get credit for the UNused portion of my MYW tickets, right? So if I book a trip and have bought 10 day MYW tickets, in order to get the entire amount I paid for those tickets applied to the purchase of Annual Passes, I would have to do it before ever entering the parks on Day 1, correct?

Second question: If I buy MYW tickets through a ticket broker at a discount and wanted to upgrade them to AP's once I get to WDW, would I get credit for the amount I paid (the discounted price) or for Disney's price? In other words, would Disney know that I bought the tickets at a discount?

Thanks for any help!

Good question, I've been wondering that too.

Incorrect.

Upgrading means getting the full value that Disney was paid for the tickets (see below for a fuller explanation of what I mean here) towards a new ticket. Uprades can be done before the ticket is used, OR within 14 days of the first use of the ticket.

If you take advantage of that 14 day window, your annual pass would be backdated to the first date you used the ticket.

Also, if you have the water parks fun and more option on your ticket, and you use one of the options, you will only be able to upgrade to a premium annual pass.

I THINK (I'm fairly sure, but not positive) that you would get credit for what DISNEY sold the tickets for. Meaning: if you bought the tickets from a broker, you would receive a credit based on what the BROKER paid DISNEY. Yes, Disney does keep tabs on that, and it's associated with the ticket's serial number how much it was sold for, and that it was sold to a broker.

The only time that rule doesn't apply is if you're adding an option to a ticket. Adding an option ONLY is not considered upgrading, so you only pay the price of the option. ($40 for hopping, $50 for water parks plus and more, and the sliding prices for non-expiration)

So, if I purchased 10 day premium MYW tickets with no expiration last fall, used 5 park days and have the rest of the tickets saved, can I upgrade to PAPs? And how much would it cost me? DD and I might have an opportunity to go on 2 trips in 2007- one for 6 days and one for 8 days. I am hoping it would save us $$ to upgrade the tickets rather than using the remaining days and buying another set of tickets.

Because you're not within the first 14 days of the ticket's first use, you cannot upgrade. You CAN get a prorated credit for them, but Disney front loads the tickets. That means the first few days are worth hefty amounts, and the later days are worth relatively few dollars.

Your best financial options is to use the tickets as-is, and just buy more as needed.

So, where can a person do this upgrading? Can we do it at Downtown Disney Guest Relations? Then, if I upgrade from a MYW base ticket to an Annual Pass on my arrival day (before using ticket), can I call and get the DDE card/letter thing, too.

You should be able to upgrade at any park or DTD guest relations window.

Yes, you can call that same day and get the DDE card - I just did that last month. First, make the upgrade to AP. Then, you can call the DDE people (after 9am, but call as soon as you can to avoid delays) and pay for the card over the phone using your credit card and AP info. After 5 or 5:30 (depending who is telling you the info) you go to the Guest Relations window *outside* of EPCOT (not another park and not the GR inside EPCOT) and can pick up your temporary card and list of places it works. The real card will be sent to your home address in a few weeks, but you can use the temporary card as soon as you have it.

Hmm. It seems like I was told we would only get credit towards the AP from UNused days on the MYW passes. It's rather confusing.

Well, I want to order the DDE on the first day so we need to upgrade as soon as we arrive anyway. Better to do it at the beginning of the vacation when there is still plenty of time to work out any errors!

Just to clarify: The Epcot Guest Relations is outside the main entrance, not the International Gateway entrance, right?
