Question about upgrading Disneyland Park Tickets...

We purchased a package deal and will be arriving at Disneyland December 3. We only have the base 1 day park tickets right now but know we want to upgrade to 5 day park hoppers.
Do we go to the gate and do it before we enter our first day?
We normally just purchase the full 5 day park hopper tickets but avoided that this time to reduce our PIF amount and will pay the difference when we get there.

I would upgrade first thing at the ticket booths. Or, enter whatever park you want to go to the first day, and upgrade on your way to park hop.

I would take a look at the lines for the ticket booths when you get there on the 3rd and then make a decision. If the line looks really long/slow, I'd go into the parks and then upgrade the next time I was passing by the ticket booth. Just make sure you do the upgrade that day because you can only upgrade the ticket while it's still valid.

We've done our upgrades in the past at WDTC in DTD. Not sure if that option is available to anyone or just those who have booked through them. We've never had a line and have been in and out in minutes.
