I plan to go to DL with my son at the end of Feb. I will buy a California Select Annual Passport, which is the cheapest one. When I go back for my birthday in April I was hoping to upgrade with my birthday pass plus add $66 for the Deluxe passport. Will they let me do this?

I know you can use your birthday tix to buy your next AP (upgrade the tix) but I don't think you'll be able to apply it to your existing AP. Otherwise that's what everyone would do. I have heard (but not confirmed) that if you upgrade your existing AP you should be able to pay the difference on the new monthly installment plan. I imagine that they would take the upgrade difference and divide by the remaining months on your pass to get the monthly cost. At least I hope they'll do that since I'm planning on upgrading our AP so we can see the new parade in March (my nephew will be in it)

If you have an AP they won't give you a ticket for admission same day. IF you take the ticket it will be for a "future visit between this and your next bday". BUT you can get the fun card, use that AND your existing AP and upgrade from there. That would give you $134 for your AP plus $69 fun card to use towards the next AP. So running the numbers you'd get $29 left on your AP after your upgrade. Upgrading doesn't change your expiration date tho, it just makes it so you can get in more days. :) The difference between the 2 So Cal APs is only $40. :)

I think the OP wants to upgrade to Deluxe. In that case, then there would be a difference to pay. The 69 + 134 = 203. And the Deluxe is 269, so yes there would be a $66 difference.

Like it's been said, you can't use the actual free admission, but you can use the fun card. (It gets confusing when you try to differentiate between the different gifts, and then you throw in upgrading!) So the answer is yes, just make sure you choose the fun card for your bday and are upgrading from that plus your old AP.

Only problem is I cannot get in on my birthday with the $134 pass. It is a out day. Can I get the fun card and upgrade at guest services to a deluxe pass which I can use on my birthday?

If you do not already have a park ticket for that day, you cannot get a gift card. The deal is a one park/one day ticket, and if you already have that you can choose another option, like the gift card, which you can only get on your birthday, and use on your birthday.

You might consider just upgrading, and using that fun card for another purchase at the park

Hopefully, someone else has better information. :)

I think I figured it out. After reading past posts on Annual passes. I will buy the $134 pass in Feb. When I go for my birthday ( a block out day) I will pay the $30 for the block out day and get the fun card ($69). I can then go to guest services and apply the $30 that I paid for the block out, and the $69 fun card and add some cash for the Deluxe pass. Is this right?

I have been thinking about the above posts. We went to DL last Monday as it was my sons BD. He got his free pass to get in and then we went to the Bank and he used the $69 from the free pass plus the $12 for parking that day and they applied it to a Premium pass. Not sure why I could not upgrade my pass the same way? As far as paying $40 for the block out day it doesn't matter as long as I can put that towards an upgrade on my pass. Any one know if I can go to guest services instead of the bank to upgrade since I already will have a pass?

Wait, did he get the free admission? Or the birthday fun card? There's a difference.

That's what I don't know. I don't know if you can use the block-out charge towards your upgrade.

He got the "free admission" Which got him in the park. Then he went to the bank and used the free admission towards his pass.

YES, you can use the $40 from the blackout pass AND the fun card towards your upgrade. So that would give you $109 to put towards an upgrade. And if you've paid for parking and are upgrading to a Premium AP you can put that $12 towards the AP as well.
