Question about Undercover Tickets

I purchased my tickets via Undercover Tourist last June. My question is, when I get to Disney can I 'trade' these tickets in for 'hard' ones. The tickets I have are rather flimsy and I would like the credit card type ones (if they still have those). We are not staying on property so I was wondering if I could do this at Downtown Disney. Thoughts?:confused3

I don't have an answer for you but interestingly enough, I just prepared to buy mine from them today! Glad I saw this thread...
I did not know they were paper ones, and with a DS I too think the plastic type is better. (we're already on a split reservation with tickets on each end so making it as SIMPLE as possible will be a PLUS for us!)

Can I ask an additional question too.....Has anyone UPGRADED these tickets on arrival at either resort OR park???

By the way, have a great trip!

The tickets from UCT are not paper. They are made from Tyvek, which is much more durable and less likely to need to be replaced than the plastic type of ticket is. If you were staying onsite, it would be possible to have your passes placed on your room key, which is plastic, at the lobby concierge. But the tickets that you get at the ticket booths and guest services at the parks would be the same Tyvek ticket that you have now.

It is possible to upgrade your UCT passes at the parks or the resort, but would probably be done more efficiently at one of the parks since they do it more frequently. Take a look at the Ticket FAQ that Cheshire Figment has written for the TPAS Board. It pretty much answers every possible question regarding WDW passes.

Just a warning, if you choose to upgrade them, you may have to pay the difference between what you paid UCT and the regular Disney ticket price, in addition to the upgrade fee.
DH's aunt had to leave her vacation early due to an emergency at home. I had purchased her a 6 day expiring pass from UCT, of which she only used 3. Guest Services were going to charge her an additional $25 plus the $35 to add the non-expiring option. Somehow, she talked the CM into only charging her the $35. This was two years ago. Just a heads up!
I have an annual pass, which is the same as the paper ticket that you received from UCT. They are surprisingly durable.

According to Cheshire Figment (who works this area at WDW):
If you purchased your MYW ticket at a price less than the current gate selling price for that ticket (such as from a discounter/broker or Advance Purchase) and you wish to do any upgrade, Disney will not penalize you for the discount provided the ticket has been used. We will make an "intermediate" ticket at the current gate price, charging the difference between your old ticket and the intermediate one to an internal voucher account. Then we will take the intermediate ticket, which is at the current gate price, and upgrade it with the additional days and/or options you want, and you will only be charged for the differences in the current gate price plus tax. Note if you had paid full current gate price for your old ticket the intermediate step is not done.

If you purchased your ticket at less than the current gate price, and your ticket has not been used, you will have to pay the difference between what Disney actually sold the ticket for and the current gate price of the ticket you are upgrading to. It is always best to use one day from the old pass prior to taking it for an upgrade; you will then have locked in the current gate price as the value of the old pass.

Ok, so they are Tyvek - great! I didn't open the tickets as they are sealed in plastic so to me they just looked like paper. One less thing for me to worry about! Thanks everyone!

OP here - I opened the protective covering the tickets came in and they do not look like Tyvek, rather like heavy cardstock:confused3....so back to my orginal question - can these be turned into guest services at Downtown Disney and replaced w/credit card type ( or at least something more substantial)?

I just got mine, agree, they LOOK like paper, I didn't even bother to open them.
I think I am going to put them in those plastic cover things that we used for a cruise to keep it safe for my son.
It is also SO LIKELY we'll add the hopper once at parks (since I learned HERE it is better to upgrade AFTER first using ticket), so it'll be something different for us this visit, we'll see how it goes.
I have a one day tix on the FREE DINE portion of our trip/2nd half and this in itself means I think I will bring some type of "sticker" to put on our Key to the World so I remember the one day pass and NOT use it but save it for a future trip!
Can anyone help us out on the above post from NJSWEETPEA???

As another poster has said, the credit card types are only when you have your tickets on your room key. The ones purchase separately are all of the "paper" type. I guess you could check at the front desk if they can transfer your tickets to your room key but, I can't say I've ever heard of anyone doing this. We have had paper annual passes for several years and I can tell you that they hold up fine (and we are talking a 2-3 trips a year). Treat them with a little care & don't shove them folded in your pocket ans you should be fine.

There is NO way to buy credit-card type tickets anywhere at WDW unless you are staying on property and add the tickets to your room key. All the non-hotel ticket locations in WDW only have the ability to issue paper tickets.

There are only two places that sell credit-card type tickets: Your local Disney Store and WDW Telesales at (407) 939-1289. Neither can tranfer an existing ticket to new media.

If you're worried about the tickets getting damaged, simply take a picture of or photocopy the backs of your tickets. If you have the numbers from the back, Disney can reissue your tickets if needed.

If you ARE staying on property, the front desk at your resort can tranfer any unused tickets to your room key. Many people here have done it successfully, so if the the CM says they can't, ask to speak to someone else. See Cheshire Figments Everything about WDW Tickets thread.

Trust those who know -- your WDW tickets are Tyvek. The credit card type tickets cause most of the problems with FastPass machines, according to a CM I talked to on our most recent trip to WDW.

Thanks for all of the info.! I just got my tickets from UCT and I have been concerned that they would not hold up, but sounds like they will be fine. I still think I will find some kind of badge holder to put them in, and I will be taking a picture of the backs of them!

Last time we went I had the tickets from Undercover Tourist - Did not have a problem with them holding up but did have a problem with a magnet on my baggallini messing them up. I had to have Disney reprint them 2 times while we were there (they printed new ones that were same material as the undercover tourist ones) After the 2nd time I took my husband's pocket knife and cut out the magnet- no more problems. Walmart sells a plastic badge holder for .99 in the jewelry dept. This little clear thing has a ziplock like place for the tickets and a back flap that was perfect to put fast passes in. Have a great trip.

The tickets from UCT were there exact same type you get at the gate -- the only plastic tickets I've ever seen are the ones you get on your resort room key.

Just fyi.

Josh

Not meaning to hijack the thread, but has anyone picked up their tickets from Undercover rather than have them mailed? I'm not going to have enough time to get them mailed to me, so I thought we would just swing by and pick them up.
