Question about typical crowds on the fantasy in January

Looking at booking a last minute cruise on the fantasy in January, or potentially the dream but most likely will go with the 7 day option on the fantasy.

I’m curious what the guest counts normally have been in the past in January? Obviously last year was a different story being all the Covid protocols , but in the past have they normally been low?

I’m considering doing the week of MLK day - so I only have to take 4 vacation days but would there be a big difference in guest between let’s say the week before or after that? I’d just that also might factor in to other peoples decisions less vacation time for someone to use, and less time to take the kids out of school.

There are no slow times on DCL cruises. They usually sail with almost all staterooms sold. Therefore, you will never feel like the ship is empty, unlike some other cruise lines, where they sometimes sail at 30-50% capacity.

The number of passengers will however vary based on the number of guests in each room. The main variable is the possibility for kids to be out of school. If you pick a week with a national holiday or during the summer, the cruise could be packed.

We've done 3 cruises on the Fantasy in Jan, all during the MLK holiday and all pre covid. We've also done 2 in March during Spring break. There wasn't a huge difference between the Jan cruises and the March cruises. We booked them all when they first came out, so at that time the Jan cruises were a few thousand less than the ones in March. We also enjoyed leaving the freezing weather of Ohio behind in Jan. So even if the ship isn't less full, Jan is a great time to cruise.

As Mark D mentioned, any cruise when kids could possibly be out of school will drive more people in each stateroom. You will notice more kids on board. If school is in session, most rooms will be booked but with lower capacity per room. MLK week will sail at a higher capacity than the cruises before or after it.
