Question about traveling with meds

What about checking your meds that you don't need for that day? My MIL uses a weekly pill organizer and I told her that carry-on on the plane she would have to use original containers - she's had cancer treatments so she takes a pharmacy of pills everyday. But if you check the rest of your pills in your checked luggage, couldn't you put pills in whatever organizer works for you?

Yes you could do that.

My husband has to take five different meds twice a day for various illnesses and even though we fly non-stop we never check meds. The risk of his bag getting lost out ways just putting the containers in his carry-on.

Thanks for all the great suggestions!

It would be difficult for me to carry my medicines in the original bottles, because I get a 90 supply from a mail order company. Those bottles are BIG.

I have travelled with medication, both oral and injectable. Before doing so, I called the airports I would be travelling through and asked someone in the security department. Both sites told me that I had to have a copy of the original label that came with my medication. My injectible meds come in a huge box and no way was I carrying that with me, plus, I wanted them in a hardsided case to protect them. I just cut the lable off of the box and put it in the case. One airport checked it, the other did not.

My mother travels often and has lots of meds. She always puts all her meds in one big bottle and uses the color/shape method to identify them. However, she got a concussion after falling down a few years ago and was pretty out of it when I took her into the ER. The nurse and I were trying to identify all of her meds and we were stuck on this little orange oval one. Finally, I said, "You know what? That looks like a Tic Tac to me." My mom pipes up from the bed, "Oh, yes. There are some Tic Tacs in there!" The nurse just about died! She had been ready to send it down to the pharmacy so they could identify it. Needless to say, I now keep a list of all Mom's meds at my house!
