Question about transfer points

I know I should know this better than I do but I have a question about transfer points.

Here's the scenario. Next year (2013) my mom wants my & my sisters' families to travel together to WDW for Thanksgiving and the week after to celebrate a special birthday for her. My sisters haven't been to WDW at all (and I of course have practically lost count of all my trips ) Anyway, they want to stay on site and I would love for them to stay at a DVC resort. I have already used some of my 2013 points and I will use the rest for my family for the trip in question. (I don't want to use my 2014 points for a number of reasons.) I figured that I could get a transfer of points into my account for accomodations for my sisters' families so that I have control of their reservations instead of a stranger. (Before anyone asks, there is no way that all of us could stay in a grand villa. It really wouldn't be much of a vacation for some of us )

So I think in terms of a transfer that I should be looking for points from the same resort that we want to book at that would be in the 2013 use year - correct? If my home resort is AKV and we want to book at AKV then I should look for AKV points - right? Any thing else I should know about a transfer that I should be concerned about?

You've got the main points.

Transferred points retain their home resort, so if you want to book at AKV during the 11-month home resort booking period, you'll want to find someone with AKV points to transfer. (For a trip over Thanksgiving, you'll definitely want to use your 11-month advantage to get the rooms.)

You're only allowed one transfer per use year, so you'll have to find a single renter who can send you all the points you need. You won't be able to get points transferred from multiple people.

Transferred points also retain their use year. Be sure the points you want to use in 2013 will be valid for the dates of your vacation. (Points that are transferred in can be banked, so there's a little bit of flexibility in this regard.)

They may have fixed this, but I don't believe transferred points show up on the online booking system. You'll need to call MS to book using these points.

Correct Dave. As of now, transferred points still do not show online. (I have 8 VWL points out there in limbo I cannot see). To use Xfer points at the moment we must call MS for assistance.

Reservations made with transferred points do show, but you can't see how many pts are remaining or where the points to book the trips came from, even though the usage breakdown has a place to show xfer points, it's all zeroed out.

Since transferred points can be banked, you could also get 2012 points that are still bankable and bank them into 2013 - that gives you more options if you find someone with 2012 points. Remember, while you can bank transferred points, you can't borrow them so you definitely can't take a 2014 transfer for a trip in 2013.

I never really thought I would get into a transfer but then I never thought I would get into borrowing either. DH keeps telling me that we don't need anymore points but how can we not we when we are transferring and borrowing

I own BLT and did a transfer of BLT points into my account that were the same UY as the one I had and they DID show up online.
