Can someone tell me when they quit making the Trails End refillible mugs? Can they still be used?

quite a while ago, every once in a while someone puts one on ebay...

yes, you still can use them, I do

The universal resort mugs started in 2007 with the blue/white Year of a Million Dreams celebration, continued with the Red What will you Celebrate? in 2009. I'm fairly sure they will continue with the "Disney Promotion" style mugs that are universal at all resorts.

But I still love my brown Fort mug.

Do the mugs change every year? We have four of them from our stay at All-Star Music last June. Just wondering if I should pack them in the trailer next march....

They have had the same mug for 2 years now. We will know better in January if they change to a new design.

As far as the FtW themed mug...they still will let you use them because when originally introduced and sold, they were sold as lifetime mugs. The plastic used was a little different and shinier than later mugs, but most CM's working at the Fort were either toddlers when the mugs first came out, or weren't even born yet....so they would not know the difference.

I only had one time at Trails End that a brand new CM tried to give me a hard time about using my original FtW mug. The coffee machine was empty and he had to go back to the kitchen to get my cuppa joe. I was polite, but very firm about the fact that MY mug was a lifetime mug. He called a manager over and was told about the facts of mugs!! :rotfl2:

Hmm interesting - I didn't know about the "lifetime" FW mugs. There's actually one on eBay now I've been eyeing. I may go take another look. ;)

They stopped making resort specific mugs a while back - I think once they brought in the "million dreams" ones, which they used for at least a couple of year.

This year they switched over to the generic red ones with the black/yellow/red covers. My guess is we'll be seeing those for a while too.

Hmm interesting - I didn't know about the "lifetime" FW mugs.

Part of the great "Refillable Mug Debate" is that all mugs prior to some date were good forever not just during your stay and were resort specific.

I'm assuming that everyone is referring to the FW mug from this time.

There's a brown Fort Wilderness Refillable mug on Ebay right now. The bid displayed is $14.74.

Yep - that's the one!

Of course now thanks to this thread it'll probably go for $65.99 ;)

Actually Disney promotions generally run for 18 months. So that's how long the mug design lasts.

I wind up buying a new one each year just to have it. And I have several mugs from around the resorts, but I don't think any of them are "lifetime" mugs.

I have a refillable mug I'd be willing to sub-let.

You just have to trust me on this one. Back in the early 80's FtW mugs were sold as lifetime, not length of stay. I can't address mugs from the other resorts. The "lifetime" clause ended in or around 1985. In the early 90's we started buying mugs from every resort just about every year until 2007, when they went to a generic mug for all resorts. The blue, generic mug that came out in 2007 had the year "2007" branded on it. In 2008 they sold the same generic, blue mug, only without a year on it. In 2009, they came out with the current design. I'm thinking 2011 will probably usher in a new mug, but that's just speculation on my part.

Be warned that on other boards you aren't allowed to even discuss reusing refillable mugs:rolleyes1 The refillable mug police will get you....:rotfl2:

It actually says on the mug I purchase in Aug 2010 - "Refills available at no additional charge at the Resort Beverage islands located in teh resort that this mug was purchased through the end of your resort stay.":rolleyes1

I just think their a great collectible and I love drinking out of mine every day at home - a little piece of disney.

Crud!

Now the cat is out of the bag!

I had my eye on that mug!

I never bought one when I had the chance.

They were definitely not being sold as life-time mugs during any of my Fort visits.

But, I believe Deb that similar looking mugs were at one time sold as lifetime mugs.

I would say this one is close enough to pass for one.

Too funny,,,, you made me look! The bottom side of my mug says WHIRLEY O WARREN PA USA CM - 16. However.... in teeny tiny print on the side of my mug it does indeed say: "Refills available at no additional charge at Resort Beverage islands located in the resort that this mug was purchased through the end of your resort stay." Never noticed that before!! It also says "Coca-Cola" and "Celebrate Today! Disney Parks". My oh my....these mugs have a LOT to say!!

Ohh i know there were the lifetime mugs. But that was before my time. My personal collection of mugs didn't start until 2003 or 04, so they don't come with the "lifetime" stamp.

I don't think the one on Ebay is a lifetime mug. We have some of those from the late '90's or early '00's. We did get in on the lifetime mugs in 1996 or 1997, I think. They were a fatter style of mug and had a removable bottom. They said Trail's End on them, not Fort Wilderness. I am absolutely sure they were lifetime, or cheap little me wouldn't have bought them. LOL (Prior to that, they all said Fort Wilderness in brown, I believe.)
