Question about ToT

I have been on every ride at Disney except ToT....in fact, RnR is one of my favorite rides. I don't like the feel of free falling so I have always refused to ride ToT. However, my DH is begging me to go on ToT during our Sept. trip. I am working up the nerve to do it this time, but I need a question answered first. I know that you are dropped several different times, but on average how far do you fall on each drop?? I am thinking I can handle falling 4-6 stories per drop but there is no way I could do it if you actually dropped the length of the building. Thanks!!

i get motion sick very easily and this ride doesn't bother me. I don't even think i could tell you how far you fall.. it is too much fun!! the doors open and you get to see the whole park!! Its great... when its over you are wanting to do it again! i guarntee it!!!

I think you only fall at the most 4 stories. If you think about it, those large free fall rides have the shoulder harnesses and you have to 42" tall. I saw smaller children riding this, plus it only has a lap belt, so it can't be that bad of a drop.

It was actually kind of smooth. We laughed the whole time, my DSD had a hold of her Daddy and my hands the whole time. It made for a great picture.

Hey, ride it once, and then you never have to do it again!

I think you will have fun though.

It is random so you don't know how many stories you're going to fall each drop, but it's never the whole building. And I agree about it being very smooth.

My dh is also a Tof T fan I am like you and donot like the feeling of coming off of the seat. The best seat to sit in is the back row all the way towards the wall. There is a handle there to hang on to. And I have now been on so many times, and gotton off in one piece,that I try to reason with myself that the ride really isn't that bad NOT!!!
I donot think you drop more than 2 floors. My advice, get on, close your eyes, and it is over quickly!!!

I was kind of nervous ahead of time, too. It wasn't nearly as scary as I thought it would be - I really liked it! I have a problem with heights and wondered if this would bother me (answer: no!).

Because you're indoors for the ride, and they just open the doors to the outside periodically, so you can see outside, it's not at all like those rides where you're totally outdoors and go up and down quickly, with lots of fast drops. (There's one like that at California Adventure, and I'd never to on that! And I love California Screamin' and TOT, so I'm not a "ride weenie!")

I would recommend that you try it - it's very fun.

I didn't ride this on our last trip. For some reason, it's not the fall that gets me. It's the waiting in the pitch dark for the fall to HAPPEN! I nearly get myself into a panic attack every time! I have no idea why but last trip, I just decided I didn't need that feeling and skipped it. I had to keep my mom company you know

My kids have been riding it ever since they were tall enough - I think ever since it's been OPEN! It really is a cute ride. I don't know why I get myself so worked up!

This is exactly me too! I get motion sick but not on this at all! Now way to tell how far you fall, its just too darn fun!! You are soo going to want to go again and again!!

Honest thoughts on TOT:


1. This ride scares the cr*p out of me..and i love all the coasters Disney has to offer.
2. It drops 4-6 stories in a random series of drops..sometimes less drops, sometimes more.
3. It drops far and fast enough to lift all 225+ lbs of me out of the seat and make me feel like I wish I was dead.
4. DH loves the pictures at the end where he is smiling and I look like I want to cry and/or hide under the seat.
5. I think he still has bruises from my fingers when we rode it 2 weeks ago.
6. I am never riding it again..but I'm glad I did it once.

I was also terrified to ride TOT and always refused. Last Feb. I finally decided to brave it and I loved it. I was not lifed up off the seat ( of course I held on for dear life ) and it did not jerk me around the way some roller coasters do. I insisted we get right back on and I loved it more the second time because I knew what to expect - except for the number of falls of course.

I suggest you try it once.

This wasn't my thread, but you do have me convinced to try it. I have tried to get the courage up twice before but this time I am going to definately do it. I will ask for a back seat, though!!

Can you request a back corner seat? I'm scared to death of heights and hate the free fall feeling, so would need something to hold onto (besides a lap bar).

Back Corner seat doesnt do anything, atleast for me. Its not really a free fall, its a push downwards. Last time I rode it was when it opened with just the one drop and it wasnt nearly as bad, went back in May and Im not doing it again. I like the free fall drop but this isnt one.

As said before, it's only felt like 40-60ft drops and it is being pulled down rather then freefalling (sounds worse, lol), which feels much more controlled. I think you'd be fine, the worse part will be just waiting for it to hurry up and happen.
It has seat belts and unless you get the center seat back row, you will have a lapbar to hold onto and can brace your feet against the row infront.

I went to Australia earlier this year which has the tallest freefall ride in the world, where the falling time was six seconds and the drop was like falling from a 39 story building, or twice the height of the TOT building. Now that was a doozy, lol.

I think if you can handle a ride like RnRC then you'll be okay. I LOVE TOT but it can not be the first ride I go on. I honestly think that your stomach builds up a tolerance over the week depending on the rides you go on. I like to start with a little Big Thunder, then maybe some Space Mountain, Splash. By the time I make it to MGM, I'm all warmed up!

So I would say, it's definitely worth a try and if you hate, at least you can say you rode it once!

As an earlier poster said, the view from the park up there is great! The ride is over quite fast, even with multilpe random drops. Just do it!!

Maybe it's just me, but I've never felt like I'm falling that far. It's over so quick, it seems like it's just a few feet. You do get more "air time" in front seats than in back, so maybe ask for the back row. As far as the anticipation of the fall, every time I've been on it, the car "jiggles" right before it drops. I don't know if it's the ride mechanism or the other riders bouncing, though...

I convinced my wife to ride and afterwards she was pretty peeved at me. It seems that she has recurring nightmares about free-falling in an elevator! She didn't think ToT was much fun.

As for the length of the drop, I think it's so chaotic that it's really hard to tell how far you go up or down.

In response to what some of the other posters have said, I think there are metal handles with every seat.

I love TOT - my DH doesn't. He rode with me twice the 1st time we went and then said "never again". When we went back later in the week I rode it 6 times while he went to Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular! It's too bad so many people don't like the drop because the ride before the drop is sooooo cool! You really should try it once just to experience the rest of the ride. If you hate it, don't do it again. Find something else to do while your DH rides it again

i believe the drop is thirteen stories. when you consider that the entire building is 199 feet tall, and the open doors are easy to recognize in relation to the height of the whole; this distance seems entirely plausible to me. nevertheless, the thrill of riding is very much worth the anxiety...even for a height and falling-averse person like myself.
