Question about the Poly longhouses

I am staying at Polynesian for the first time in November. I was wondering, are all of the rooms entered from the outside, or do you enter the longhouse and go down the corridor or in an elevator to your room?

I'd also love to hear any suggestions as far as where I could request to stay.. we're in Garden View. And any tips or suggestions for the resort in general are appreciated! :goodvibes

There are two doors, one at each end of the longhouse, and you enter and walk down the corridor or go up the stairs/elevator to your room.
The outside entrances are sliding glass doors/patios and can't be entered unless left open or someone is in the room already.

For our stay at the Poly we were placed in the Tokelau longhouse. I really liked that location. We were on the bottom floor, so we had a little patio, and a nice view of the quiet pool. It is only steps away from Captain Cooks, and only a short walk from the volcano pool. I have nothing to compare it to, but I think for a garden view room it was the perfect spot.

Thank you!

I was considering asking for Rarotonga, because it's close to GCH. But are there any thoughts on this?

I have an open mind to any building, I was just thinking location wise, maybe closer to GCH would be good? Or is the place a lot more compact than the map lets us believe?

Hello

The Rarotonga is a great choice. We have stayed in that building twice.
The second time we stayed there I had requested a ground floor room facing the east (Quiet Pool) and we got it. We really liked this room, It was quiet, close to the Grand Ceremonial house and being on ground level it there were no stairs or elevator to deal with. There is a small patio and a couple of chairs and able to walk right out of your room though the sliding glass door was really nice as well . Keep in mind there are no balconies on the second floor.
I would definitely check out Tikimans web site.

We have stayed in Tokelau each time, and love the location. Central location for getting over to the GCH or walking over to the TTC to catch the Epcot monorail.

For this trip (GV, as well), I requested Samoa.

I have to second the PP's post about Tikiman's website. It's invaluable when planning a Poly stay! :)

I had actually requested the Raratonga longhouse for our trip, but we ended up in Tokelau. I third the recommendation for Tikiman's website. It will give you a great view of the resort, and describe the different longhouses. I also think the resort is much more compact that you are thinking, and than it looks on the map.

I have seen tikiman's website, and I found it very helpful. I was just wondering about those of you who have had experience there and what you found to be your favorite and why.

I love to hear opinions on things like this. :)

We stayed in Tokelau and there were four entrances; one on each end and one on each side at the middle of the building.

My vote would be for either Tokelau or Samoa. Both are convenient to both pools, a short walk to the GCH and the TTC.
Tokelau is close to the bus stop and laundry.

Aloha! :cool1:

We requested, and stayed, on the West side of Tokelau on the 3rd floor. It was a Gardenview room but if you looked right from our balcony, you could see the top of Cinderella's Castle. Our balcony overlooked the quiet pool, but it wasn't a noise issue. Tokelau is in the middle of the GCH and the TTC, which is a nice benefit if you want to walk to the Epcot monorail. I agree with all previous posts that tikiman's website is very very useful. It was that website that convinced me to request Tokelau....he is very good about giving pros and cons of each longhouse.

Have fun!

Don't think I can be of much help regarding Garden Views as we had a Theme Park view room in Tahiti for our only stay, but absolutely LOVED IT!! The resort is not that spread out as you might think. It will be a fairly quick walk to TTC or GCH from wherever.

One thing I would NOT do is to request a room on first floor unless you want people being able to peek into your rooms. There's alot of walking paths in and amongst the Garden View rooms, so I'd request a top floor room if possible in whatever building you are in. There are elevators to get you to the higher floors.

I like the Samoa longhouse because it's close to the pool, and the Tokelau because the rooms are huge. Like previous posters have said the resort is pretty compact. I also think you would have to be really unlucky to get a bad view. I am sure there are few bad views, but most of gv rooms look out onto lush tropical landscaping.

We stayed in Rarotonga and thought the location was perfect! It was steps from our room to both the GCH and the bus stop. It was also extrememly convenient to the main pool. You can't ask for a better location. One side looks out at the quiet pool and the other side has a great view of the monorail.

Our favorite, however, is Samoa. Here is why:

We adored this view. We could even see the monorail in the distance.

We always request 3rd floor for a guaranteed balcony. Most of the longhouses don't have balconies on the 2nd floor.

Enjoy the Poly!!

I agree with the above and we’ve booked a TPV with the following requests: Tahiti, 3rd floor. Now with my obsessive planning I’d like to get a list of the “best rooms” in this request. I’d like to use this list to make sure we get the best available for our trip. I’ve checked Tikiman’s pages (a tremendous site!) and other posts, but a few “been there and we loved it” endorsements with room numbers would be great!

Thanks

Multiple trips in the past, but looking to the future...April 21-28, 2012 Poly TPV, July 12-18, 2012 off-site (meeting), April 13-21, 2013 5 days at WDW and Disney Dream Cruise

Third floor sounds like a plan. That pic is gorgeous!! Oh the decisions!!! :)

This is what we requested and received. Nice view from the balcony with no worry of someone walking right past us or a lot of noise reaching us from the ground as well as no one stomping on our ceiling.:thumbsup2
