I really, really loved this hotel when we toured it a few weeks ago. And now that we're thinking of returning to southern California next year, I'd really like to stay there. Does anyone know if this resort ever offer specials or discounts? Or do I just have to bite the bullet so to speak and pay the rates as posted?

Thanks!

My best friend has worked there for over 12 years. They really don't have many "deals" and the rates are very high. I know AAA is running a promo with them right now if you are a member. It is a beautiful hotel - the history is amazing. The beach is nice. If you can afford it I say go for it!

Gulp...

I may just have to resign myself to the prices at this resort. I just knew that I had to stay there the minute I walked in the door. The place is so gorgeous and I love the busy atmosphere and its tinge of mystery too. And that beach! The Travel Channel crowned it the number 1 southern California beach and I can see why. :D

We stayed there two years ago during Christmas and had a beachfront suite for a great price! They do offer specials but you have to be diligent. We happened into a rsvp by accident on the phone one day, after being told there was no availability on previous attempts. You may have to be flexible about your arrival date.

I have to agree it is well worth the effort! We had a fantastic time and the weather was great. It is an exceptionally beautiful resort and just magical during the holidays! What an attention to detail!

The best rate that I have seen is $150 per night which was offered in January 2002.

I also am from California (central part), I remember seeing a few adds last winter (Jan-Feb) offering "deals" or "getaways" for del Coronado. I can't remember what they were. I only remember because I've never seen them before. Also I remember some orginization also had a seminar or conference there recently (in the last year) as well. Both events are unusual.

Oh my Christmas at the Del! I hadn't even thought of that. :D

Plus it sounds like there may be hope after all. $150/night is so reasonable IMO.

Thanks! :D

Christmas at the Del is amazing!!! They have a huge tree and there is always a big ceremony when it gets lit. I think you would love it at Christmas and if the hotel is not full from conventions and incentives (which at X-mas is doubtful) then you may have a chance at getting a halfway decent rate. Good luck!

Hey Plano Girl,
You'll love the Del at Christmas. Just an itty bitty warning though. The Del is fabulous, but it is also quite an old hotel. (Thomas Edison put in the original electricity). The rooms can be small and the ventilation might not be the best so be very specific about what you want when you make your reservation. Ask for a newer room of possible. I'd hate for you to spend a lot of $$$ and have high expectations and be disappointed. Oh yea, when you check in ask about the haunted rooms. The Del is filled with ghosts.

They are advertising $150 a night a in the newspaper right now, here in Phoenix. All summer they advertised over $250, so this seems to be their down time, and the weather is still great in SD right now. ALthough, they do a have a tower portion of the hotel, make sure that if you really want to stay in the original building, that's what you're getting.

Sometimes I've seen an ad run with the LA Times online for the Del. I can't remember the price, but it was a special offer. I would also check the Del's website. They must have one by now.
