Question about the Disneyland Express

So since 1998 DH and I have gone to Disneyland many times, but usually just the two of us. We either drove from San Diego when visiting family, borrowing a car, or came from LAX with a rental car.

For the very first time in April, we are taking my two neices to DLR!! My sister and my mother are coming as well, so there will be 4 adults and 2 children, age 7 and 5.

For the past few years, we have rented a car on Priceline, usually getting an intermediate car for $20 or less a day. It doesn't look like we will be able to get an SUV or minivan for anywhere near that. :scared1:

So we are looking into other transportation options. I think the girls would think it was way cool to get on a big Disneyland bus, so I'm considering the Disneyland Express! We are staying at the Camelot Inn, so if it drops off at the bus stop, that wouldn't be too bad of a walk.

I would love to hear of experiences of those who've taken it before, would you recommend it? Did your kids love it? Should we just take SuperShuttle?

TIA!
Vicki

I would also love to hear about other people's experience with them from LAX.

Hi, We will be staying at the Camelot too and are wondering the same thing. Still trying to decide which will be the fastest time wise and with the least stops....DL Express or Super Shuttle. Vicki, you said DL express drops you off at the bus stop so I'm guessing that means they don't actually drop you off at the Camelot? Do you or does anyone know how close the bus stop is too the Camelot? We will have quite a bit of luggage and a 4 year old so really wouldn't want to deal with all of that if we had to walk far.

We used this service in 2006 from LAX. We had a fabulous driver who was intent on making all of us laugh.
The trip does take longer as you make stops at all the resorts to disembark but everyone is so hyped up that it is a gabfest.

For out trip in 13 days I booked an eight day rental via Travelocity for Thrifty car rental and for a full size $174. Airport transfers, Universal Studio transfers and Pirate dinner transfers worked out to much higher for five of us.

I would estimate that it is about half a block from the bus stop to the Camelot. Not bad at all, but if you have lots of luggage that could be a pain!

BTW, let me know if you have any questions about the Camelot, this will be our 5th stay there!

We took the Disneyland Express from LAX to the GCH in October 2007. It was a nice ride and a lot less scary of a drive than my experiences with Super Shuttle. We had a great driver that pointed out things along the trip, and she was very energetic for it being 10:30 at night! The only hard part about the express was waiting on the island for the bus with all of our luggage (there were 6 of us). However, once we were on the bus (and away from the crazy airport traffic) it was a nice relaxing ride.

Be sure to check the website for the bus as they usually have a coupon that is $3 off a roundtrip ticket!

Does the Disneyland express stop at Hojo's?

It does appear to. I managed to find a link to a PDF schedule on their site. Not sure where it is now, but it was there just a week ago, and it shows HJ on there.

I was going to use them over my weekend, but coming from SNA, Supershuttle was $20 roundtrip (minus $4 with the Entertainment book coupon), and even with the online discount DE was more, so I just did supershuttle.

Coming from LAX, though, I don't know the prices to compare!

Nice!:thumbsup2

I am guessing hopefully that since this will be your 5th stay at the Camelot then it's a good place to stay. I've read pretty good reviews so I'm hopeful. We have booked a king suite (the king bed with sofa bed). Any tips on what area/floor to ask for that is relatively quiet yet we could see fireworks from or alternatively any area/rooms to avoid.

Yeah, not sure we want to walk with the luggage so might have to go with Super Shuttle after all.

We have used it four times in the last year the most recent being the day before yesterday. No issues, takes about 40 min. We even had traffic on Sunday due to the weather and we still made it to the DL Hotel in 45 min.

Has anyone had the bus fill up? Did you have to wait 30 minutes until the next bus?

Yes we have always enjoyed our stays in the Camelot. We only stayed there once last year, because they tend to be more expensive than the other offsite hotels. But for our upcoming trip we got a great web rate of $111!

I have never requested a specific location, but I guess I would want the closest room to Harbor, so there is less walking.

I always insist on being in the park for fireworks, so I don't know which rooms have a good fireworks view. However, the pool deck would be a great place to go watch them if your room wasn't an optimal location.

Thanks! Not sure our DD will be up for being in the park for the fireworks or not but hopefully if I ask real nicely when we check in they will find us a good room.

You know what, it never even occurred to me that my DNieces's might tire out before the fireworks!! It's always just been me and DH, so tired or not, we stay!!

I guess I better request a room with a fireworks view too!! Thanks for making me think this out! This trip will certainly be a learning experience for me and DH, as we are childless!!

I think the best part of the experience will be getting to see DL through a childs eyes.....talk about really bringing out the kid in you....even though I'm still a big kid anyway!

We have taken the Coach about 4 times. Every time it has been perfect!

The bus has never been full for us. Of course we always go in the off season. There are tv's that play DL videos for you to watch on the way to your hotel. The driver will load & unload your luggage. It couldn't be easier!

This is the first I've heard of the Disney Express. Does it only pick up and drop off from LAX?
