Maybe I'm just paranoid, but I need help on a couple of issues:
I am going to SSR for the first time in April, it is all booked, planned, etc. I also have dates picked out for the end of November. I would like to try out all the DVC resorts. I thought maybe I could book Nov. while I'm there in Apr, but it's not exactly within 7 months, it's like 7 and a half.
1) Would they even try or should I wait until exactly 7 months?
2) Is it possible that, for some reason, I can't get a room at any of the other DVC resorts, at that time (even though it's a quiet time)? Would it then matter that I would already be a few months into the 11 month window for SSR? It it technically possible I could end up no where? Just playing devil's advocate a little bit, and making sure I am clear on the process.
Thanks :flower1:

You can't book a resort other than your home resort until 7 months from the check-out date. MS can tell you about availablility, but they'll not make a ressie before then.

We like to stay at the BCV for the Flower show. I booked BWV for the dates, and when I could, I changed the reservation to BCV. Lots of people book the home resort and then switch. You can book at SSR anytime after 11 months, so it would be only a question of availability for you to stay there if you wait until less than 7 months make that ressie.

That is why it is usually wise to book your hme resort at 11 months as Bobbi has suggested and switch out at 7 months to where you would like to stay. Even if nothing is available right away, go on a wait list.

I'm confused about this "switch out" thing. I was under the impression that this is not allowed. In the 2005 Vacation Planner under Home Resort Priority it says " In order to take advantage of the Home Resort Priority, all vacation points being used to make the reservation must be associated with your Home Resort. If, at a later date, you wish to use vacation points from another Disney Vacation Club Resort, you cannot "switch out" the vacation points." Am I not understanding this properly? Can someone please try to explain this to me? Thanks!

Now, I'm really confused

You are correct that you are not understanding it properly.

"Switching out" is something different than what was suggested. "Switching out" is when you have points at two resorts and you make a reservation at one of the resorts at the 11 month window. 6 months later you decide that you would have rathered to have used the other resorts points. so you call and tell them to use resort "B" points instead of resort "A" points for your reservation. You can't do that.

But you can make a reservation at the 11 month window, then at 7 months check to see if something else is available at another resort. If it is, MS cancels the first reservation and then makes a new one with your freed up points.

I think that means you can't book at BWV in the 11 month window and then at the 7 month window say "Please use my OKW points on that reservation instead." without canceling and re-booking. You can always switch reservations from one resort to another at the 7 month window by canceling the first reservation and using those points on the new reservation.

Now, I understand!
Thank you! :D
