I was just wondering, I'd like to visit WDW again soon and take advantage of the free dining plan. But I was just wondering about the automatic 18% gratuity for groups of 6 or more. Does the number reflect the total paying guests, or total people regardless of age?

I ask because we are a group of 4 adults, a 4yr old and an infant (only 3 months old currently). Will having the infant with us mean we are charged the 18% gratuity automatically??

Just to be clear, I have no problem leaving a tip, but I don't want it forced upon us. We like to tip according to service received, whether it be more or less than the 18%.

Thanks!

Refer to the tipping stickie, but the short answer is yes you will be counted as a party of 6 (and need to make ADRs accordingly).

All persons count for restaurant reservations, regardless of age.

Please see the Tipping Information sticky thread for more information on tipping, and an explanation of why all tipping questions on the restaurant board are restricted to that thread. In short, yes, you are a party of six and will be required to pay the 18% automatic tip at TS restaurants.

(As the previous poster noted, make sure you make your restaurant reservations for a party of six. If you assume the infant doesn't count and make them for five, you may end up at a restaurant that is filled to capacity and only five of your party will be admitted.)
