Question about the Atlanta airport

I have an older friend who is not very mobile that is traveling with her 2 grandchildren that are 6 and 9. They will be on a jet coming from Austin, getting on a regional jet (run by one of Deltas commuter services) on their next leg. They only have an hour and 6 minute layover, and she is concerned that they won't make their flight because she cannot walk quickly.

This is my question, do all the terminals in Atlanta connect at ground level? I know that you can take the lower level train from terminal to terminal, but I'm thinking she could have a cart take her to the next terminal if they all connect??

I guess another question would be how do you arrange for a cart to pick you up? Do you just ask the gate agent or make arrangements ahead of time with the airline?

TIA for any information you can share with me. I want her to enjoy her vacation and not be worried about he return flights.

The terminals do not connect at ground level.

I would let Delta know immediately. I don't know that a 76 minute layover is enough with someone who needs help to get between gates.

That airport is HUGE. We flew into Atlanta in April. Our flight (Delta) was the first flight out of our local airport that morning and it was delayed a half hour because of traffic. We arrived in one terminal and had to walk to the complete opposite side of the airport to catch our connecting flight. We were TWO minutes late due to the delay and missed our flight. We ended up flying standby, catching the next fight out (which happened to be at the original terminal) so we had to walk BACK to the other end.

I vowed then not to fly Delta again if I can help it. It was just me and my 4 year old so I was lugging carry ons while pushing him in a stroller. Our layover was just an hour.

I would definitely tell her to make prior arrangements, if possible.

I am not sure why you walked instead of taking the train?

The train is much faster then walking.

Also, this is one reason I tell folks to be very careful with carryons. It is a big airport and it will slow you down hauling everything you own. Just pay the fees and carry on only what you can handle EASILY! (for example a stroller and backpack?)

I agree the OPs friend needs to call Delta and arrange for escort service between flights.

We did take the train. When going from terminal A to terminal F, even with the train, it took a half hour. We had a 1/2 hour delay and a 1/2 hour walk. I want taking my time, either. I was hustling.

Thank you so much for all the information. I will let her know to make prior arrangements.
