Question about the AK aviary..

Ok, here's the deal....I am absolutely scared to death of birds. Don't like them, can't stand them. Got it? So....if I'm touring the Maharajah Trail, do I have to go through the aviary? If I want to avoid it, am I going to have to backtrack the entire trail? Also, how big is the aviary? Can I get through it quickly? Thanks!

I am not sure about bypassing it but it is prett wide open with a nice wide pathway trhu the middle. My memory tells me that most of the birds were things like ducks and the such that pretty much sat off to the sides. I dont remember any birds flying around really.

It is on the tame side of things. You walk through and the birds are in the trees. If you don't want to see them though, you could meet your group at the exit.

There is a higher concentration of birds than most places that you visit outside but it is by no mean packed with birds. Actually, you're probably more likely to get freaked out by the more aggressive birds near the outdoor eating area. The birds in the aviary will leave you alone whereas the "natural" birds may approach you and try to take your food.

Thanks alot kaabost! Now I'm going to be paranoid about eating outdoors. Oh well...I guess as long as Donald Duck is the only bird that gets too close to me I'll be ok!

I'm not possitive, but I think you actually can bypass it altogether. If I remember right, there is a trail you can take that goes around it but you don't have to backtrack through anything else. Can anyone else confirm?

hey, better to be prepared! Seriously though, if you really are deathly afraid of birds, you may want to try to eat inside. Enough people have fed the birds that they may be somewhat aggresive at times. As long as you aren't holding food though, you'll be fine. Have a great trip!

BTW, baabost, just noticed your picture & the fact that even your trip ticker is birds! Too bad we're not going to be at WDW at the same time. I'd enlist you as my 'bird bodyguard!'
