Question about tent stakes needs

Has any tent campers had any problem at the fort with using regular tent stakes? Being that we've never camped there I realize I don't know what the site surface is truly like. I get the impression it's a crushed shelly kind of loose stuff. Am I going to need special sand tent stakes to keep things from blowing away? Just curious. Getting down to the wire and want to be ready for what ever is thrown our way. :thumbsup2

Thanks :goodvibes

The material is crushed volcanic rock. It compacts very well and will accommodate the normal tent spikes that you would usually have. I have used both metal and plastic spikes without problems, things blowing away, etc.. You'll be fine.

The material is actually crushed sea shells, to a sand-like consistency. It does seem to hold quite well, but I am not a fan of the plastic anchors, we use metal ones with a hook for retrieval.

In the coquina, any tent peg that has a broad flat edge will hold well. The perfectly round aluminum tent pegs with the little s-hook at the top will pull out more easily.

This is based on nearly a year of my life (365 nights) sleeping in tents with Boy Scouts as a boy and as an adult. I can go long and in detail on rain flies, water proofing, sealing seams, ground cloths, shapes, skins, condensation, ventilation, and tent pegs. But as I get older it appeals to me less and less.

But the Fort is one of the few places I would continue to tent camp if it came to that.
