We're planning a 7 day cruise for June,2003 one daughter will be 16 the other will be two months short of 13. The girls definitely want to do eveything together so will it be a problem for the younger one just to say she's 13. She doesn't want to be in a gruop of kids without her sister. :)

Hi sunsets and welcome to the DIS!

It is not possible to "say" you are a different age, as everything including birth date is encoded into your key to the world card. Also you daughter will be listed for the Oceaneer Lab, not Common Grounds which is age 13 thru 17.

You can visit Common Grounds on embarkation day and request to move her into that group. It will depend upon the counselors if they are able to honor your request due to number of teens, etc. Be aware that many older teens are allowed in thru exception also, my own 18 year old daughter being one of them. So you actually will have an age range up to 19 at times in there. Good luck! :)

Thanks for the information. This may cause us to think twice about cruising next year since our daughters are very close and definitely want to do activities together. Since you mentioned that they go by birth date (as much as I would hate to be dishonest) would it solve our problem if I give them a different birth date since we are only talking 2 months difference?

I've been told that they will without question let you move your child up if they are within a month of the next birthday, so for two months, just call and ask? The worst they can say is no (LOL)!

As far as fibbing, you have to have their birth certificates with you for security/immigration purposes, and I think it would possibly create some confusion (something you definitely DON"T want right now) if the dates didn't match!

You can't give them a different birthdate, because one of the documents you will need to have with you is their birth certificates (or passport if they have one) and the date will be verified/recorded from that document.

I wouldn't get too hung up on Common Grounds as far as activities go. According to my DD about all they did in there was watch some movies, maybe listen to music and they had some board games. She usually went there to read a book.

There is still plenty to do on the ship.

last time i was on board we had a kid who had just turned 12... according to one of our conselors "the parents made it very clear that he WOULD NOT be in the oceaneers lab"

so i guess... it is possible. i think CG is generally from grades 7-12... its just a general group of ages.... i wouldnt see her hangin out in there as a problem.
