we are thinking about taking our laptop so that we can put our digitial pictures on the computer each night and not have to worry about buying extra cards. Have others taken their computers and felt safe about leaving them in the rooms?
Thanks

I've taken my lap top to WDW at least two dozen times and left it in the room with no problems.

LOVE taking DH's laptop to WDW, then I can post here while I'm there:p, check out restaurant menus, etc!!

At the S/D they have high speed internet access which is just awesome. I believe many of the WDW resorts have it now too. SORRY running off subject...to answer your question...

There is an in-room safe in the S/D rooms. We put the laptop in there when we leave the room. We're pretty comfortable with that.

We usually just leave it in the nightstand.

Never had a problem whatsoever, knock on wood. 4 trips and counting.

I always take my laptop and just put it back into the carrying bag when done, but leave it in the room when were away. The last time we were at POR in November 2003, I left my laptop on the table and the laptop was still connected to the data jack of the phone when we left for the parks. Upon return to our room my laptop was there on the table, but the long phone cord I had between the laptop and phone was missing. We didn't have any other problems but I thought this was strange.

I typically just place mine in my suitcase when we leave the room. I prefer not to make it obvious but at the same time I'm not paranoid about it either. We travel quite a bit and so far, I've had no problems.

I also take my laptop to download digital photos every time I go to one of the Disney Resorts. I have never had a queasy feeling about leaving it out at a Disney property. Unfortunately, for those few times that I have to stay at a non-Disney establishment (waiting to get into the World resort), I am very uneasy about leaving it in the room.
I have never had an issue with anything being moved, touched or cords taken.
so IMHO take the laptop, few those photos.
I usually run the trips photos on a loop to glance at as I am getting ready in the morning before heading to the parks.

YOu can buy a little lock that you can hook around a piece of furniture or something to secure the laptop. I had a friend whose husband secured his to the S joint under the sink since thiefs would have to take apart the sink to steal it LOL! (He is self employed and EVERYTHING is on that PC!)

I just put mine in its case and stick it in the closet. It has never been bothered.

We just use a cable-lock on ours. They are faily cheap and easy to use. Just loop it around something permanent in the room, lock, and go. No problems.

I am taking mine, again. In the past I have never locked it up - I typically put it away when we head out. For our upcoming trip I have acquired a cable style lock.

I am seeking your thoughts... Will Mousekeeping feel that I don't trust them by securing it? Should I care what they think?

I am leaning towards putting it in the bag and not worrying about locking it up.

(Sorry for letting the soft innerside of me show)

Just be sure not to run the cable through a table leg or something that the loop could be slipped over. Just because the leg is on the ground doesn't mean someone couldn't lift it and run the loop off.

I mention this because I think WDW rooms are rooms that don't have a lot of good permanent fuxtures to lock to (I haven't been in a year and I might be getting my hotels mixed up). If I have my hotels straight, I lock to the shelving in the closet that is attached to the walls.

Thanks for everyone's replies. When you go through security at the airport do you just let the computer go through the x ray machine?

The last time I took my laptop through security they made me boot the computer.

i just had to take my laptop out of its case and run it through separately. And I was very comfortable leaving my laptop in the room. I just left it in the case.

We always put the laptop, and any video games in one of our big suitcases before we leave for the parks. We lock the suitcase, and use the in-room safe for jewelry, should we happen to have any with us. We've never had a problem either, but why run the risk when it's so easy to do? Of course, you can't leave your laptop charging when it's locked in a bag, but we charge it overnight anyway. We wouldn't be able to survive without our laptop, even at Disney!

Got stuck taking it for work when we had a convention at the Swan. No problems left it in the room for dinners and "after hour activities" (sorry the park closed early those days) but everything was there when we got back.::yes::

We took ours when we went to the flower and garden festival because we knew we were going to take alot of pictures. Just put it in the case and left it. No problems. We were at the Swan.

I've never had a problem leaving my laptop in the room. The most they've done is to move it from the bed, or coffee table to the desk area so they could clean.

I worry far more about my badge and gun. Those stay in the safe.

at how many people are willing to leave a laptop sitting out in a hotel room. I too, take my computer whenever we travel, but, always put it in the safe when out of the room. Would you leave a $1500 camera sitting on the bed, or a table? What aout $1500 in cash? What's the difference? Laptop theft is a very common problem. I do agree WDW seems a very safe place, but, I'm not inclined to be that trustful.

By the way...just back from a week long trip (stayed at the Poly). We were there with a family group (4 rooms) and often left the door ajar...well Disney security knocked on the door just to make sure we were in the room.
