Question about SWA Rapid Rewards

Has anyone used Southwest Rapd Rewards to purchase an airline ticket? I did for the first time and I would like to change the ticket for different time but it's more money. Can I pay the difference in cash or do I have to use rewards. I don't have enough rewards to go to a more expensive flight.

I'm not sure, but I don't think they let you use cash and points. If you need more points, you might be able to purchase the points more cheaply than it would be to purchase the ticket; something to consider. Another thing to consider- Is there anyone else in your family with enough points to purchase the one-way ticket for you with their points?

You cannot combine points & cash for a ticket.

You can cancel the ticket and the points will return to your account & then pay $ for entire ticket.

If you booked RT on points and want to keep one leg of the trip on points and pay cash for the other, then that is do-able...i.e. Use the points for the more expensive flight/time & rebook on cash

Another (rare) option is SWA does sometimes change flight times. Monitor it, but they should send you an email if they do. In that case you can ask to be switched to a different flight, even a day or so pre or post.

If the original ticket was purchased with points, then it must remain in points.

You can buy more points from SWA, you can transfer points from another account (fee involved), or you can cancel your reservation and change to all cash. There will be no fee for this, and all points will return to your accounts, however, if you have purchased EBCI, it will be lost and you will have to repurchase.

Thank you. We have one way with points. We need 4 tickets with points and only 2 have us have enough points to get the new time. I looked to pay cash to get more points and it cost more then buying the ticket. We will leave tickets as is and just leave at the earlier time.

they are having a sale on points right now. Depending on how many you buy you can get up to 50% more for free. So it would be cheaper to buy points for a ticket
