question about split stay

Our plans for a fall trip unfortunately had to be put on hold until next year:( My daughters dance studio travelled to disneyland this year (we just got back last week!) so 2 trips this year just wasn't possible:( I'm already planning for next year though!
The kids want to stay at Pop Century again as they absolutely loved it. I want to stay at POFQ, which is where we had planned to stay this year. So I thought about a split stay...1 week at POP and 1 week at FQ. When I price it out on the DW website, its more $$ to book it separately than it is to just stay at the FQ for the entire 2 weeks. I can't see how that is possible?? Can you book a split stay without having to book 2 complete separate packages?
I appreciate any advice or help!:)

You mentioned packages which at the very least include a room and tickets so a single 2 week stay would include only one set of tickets and trip insurance, but when you priced 2 separate packages for Pop and POFQ it would include 2 sets of tickets. Also trip insurance for each package. (Trip insurance is something that you have to opt out of if you don't want it because it's automatically included when you price out the package.)

Unless you want the dining plan, you could do room only and purchase the tickets separately. Or you could do a package for the first reservation and room only for the second resort reservation.

Can a split stay with free dining be done? That would be our ideal situation, lol.

When I price out a 1 week package with a 5 day pass, and then another 1 week package with a 5 day pass(since you can't book a package without tickets)..it comes out to more $$ than just booking a 2 week package with 10 day passes. Does that make sense? is it the tickets that are the issue, because I'm pricing them out as 2 separate ticket purchases? Is there any other way to do it? i hope this makes sense, lol

Yes, it's the tickets that make it more expensive. And free dining requires a minimum of a 2 day ticket. You could get length of stay tickets on your first res for the 2 weeks, then on second res just buy 2 day tickets, and put them aside for another WDW trip that you plan on doing room only. You can upgrade tickets when you arrive.
Don't know how much you'll save, as you'd still need 2 sets of tickets.

If you can get a room discount on your resorts rather then free dining, you could book a room only with room discount, and pay to add on DDP. Since you are there for 2 weeks, you could get APs. Ticket requirements are waived for pass holders so you could book AP + Dine packages. Note free dining ticket requirements aren't waived for pass holders. It has to be an AP room discount.

I know it gets confusing with dining and split stays
