Question about split-stay and adding dining...

We're planning a split-stay for our vacation next year. I had planned to have the dining plan on each one. (not free dining) I had thought for the second part of the stay I could just do a one-day ticket in order to add dining, but I thought I read something where it has to be a two-day ticket? Is that just for free dining, or for any dining? We may come out overall better just doing an annual pass, but I wanted to check this ticket thing first. Thanks in advance!

How many days is your trip total? If you plan on taking another trip within a year, an AP is the way to go. At that point, you can do the AP/dining package deal through the AP website and then you don't have to buy any more tickets.

Now, if you opt not to buy an AP, you will have to buy a one day ticket for the dining package. The two day ticket is only for free dining at this point (who knows, it could change next year).

Thanks! That's what I don't know, if that one-day requirement will change for next year. We are planning a 12 night total trip. (4 nights Yacht Club concierge, 8 nights BLT 1 bedroom.) Game plan was to just do 11 days in the parks, which would be the 10 day ticket plus the one day base. We thought regular dining with the Yacht Club reservation, since it's concierge, then deluxe dining with the BLT reservation. I am sort of thinking that APs may be best, plus we'd be able to go into the park every day if we wished. Another trip in that one year time period might would happen, but not for sure.

My other question is about tickets, so maybe I need to go to another forum. I was wondering if I buy APs before the trip and have them mailed to me, then do I have access to the AP site for booking, etc.

I'll cheat and answer the question here, yes, you can. The site will just ask for your voucher #.

DH and I decided to do a split stay for our upcoming trip with quick service for the first four days at POP and then regular dining when we switch to WL.

I would love to try deluxe. We'll be doing a few meals OOP so I'll keep track of everything we spend and see if it'll be worth it our next trip.

Your plan sounds really good! We had discussed the quick service and regular plan, and do plan to try that in the future. This trip will be for my Mom's birthday, so we're going all out. :) Originally we had deluxe in mind for both resorts, but with the Yacht Club concierge, I really thought deluxe may be overkill for that part.

I'm planning on keeping all receipts to see how it comes out, too. :)

Thanks so much for your information/advice!

If that BLT reservation is on DVC points you do not have to purchase a ticket at all to add DDP to that reservation.

If it's a cash reservation, you will have to buy tickets. You're right, the one-day ticket requirement might change next year; this year it's a two day ticket for FREE dining.

And yes, you can book things with an AP voucher, but you may need to have the AP to show when you check in, I don't know if they'll accept a voucher at that point.
