Question about Southwest-Leaving Tomorrow

I just got my on-line boarding pass. It has an "A" on it but no seat numbers. Am I remembering correctly that this means that we try to pick our own seats? When will we board? Would we be the first group? Thanks for all the help. This is only our second time flying ever.

Soutwest does not have assigned seats. They usually pre-board families with children under 3 or 4 and then those with the A boarding passes board, then the B's and then the Cs.

What helenk said. I have flown Southwest a number of times and it went fine. It seems that some folks do not get the online boarding passes early, I'm not sure why...maybe they don't know that you can get them online as opposed to waiting until you get to the airport? Every time I've gotten them, we get the "A" seating and were able to sit together. (We're a family of three.)

Southwest changed this a couple of months ago. You can now get boarding passes 24 hours before your flight departure.

I flew Southwest yesterday - Phoenix to Detroit.

As everyone else has said, we printed our boarding passes 24 hours prior to departure. We had "A" boarding passes and were the first to board.

The flights we were on were pre-boarding families with children four and under.

Our flights were on time in both directions. Very easy. See an empty seat - sit down.
