I asked this in another thread and it got buried.

Does anyone know if purchasing gifts cards (store cards or Visa gift cards) on the Southwest C/C counts toward the required total to obtain the 60,000 reward points?

Thanks!

Thanks!

I have another question.

I found dirt cheap tickets today (one way) and decided to go ahead and get them (figured I could use the points for another trip!)

However, I am not 100% sure that's the date I want. If I cancel and by then have received my points, will I be able to use the credit from the canceled flight and points to pay for the new flight?

No, you cannot split the cost of a flight between points and dollars. If you cancel the paid flight, you will get a credit for each traveler (cannot be transferred or used by anyone other than the name on the original flight) good for use on flights departing within one year of the original purchase date. You can use credit from the cancelled flight and pay the extra cost in dollars, but not in points.

You can use that credit towards a one way ticket, and then separately use points for the return - or whichever.
