Question about someone else using your magic band for fastpass plus?

sorry, this doesn't really apply to me but i'm curious. how does it work without using up a day off of the ticket that is associated with the magic band? isn't it the ticket that entitles you to the FP's for the day? i'm very confused. :)

No, ticket usage is not necessary to use a FP in the parks. The FP system only reads FP data; it doesn't check to see how a person entered the park.

You really can use a fast pass without using a ticket? My dad is booked on our reservation for August, but there's a good chance he either won't go or won't go into the parks with us. If he chooses to skip the parks, I'd like to save his 8 day parkhopper for us for a future trip. But if we could still use his fast passes without having to use up his ticket, that would be awesome!

Do you know if the fast passes will still work from his magic band if we've removed his ticket from the magic band and converted it to an old school plastic card ticket?

If you mean that you're planning to remove his ticket from his MDE by transferring it to someone else's MDE, then he would lose the 8 days of FP+. But, as others have said, if you just get a card to access his FP+ entitlements (instead of using his MB), but the ticket is still assigned to his MDE profile, then the FP+ will stay put. Either the card you plan to get or the MB would allow you to use his FP+.

You're right that it is the ticket that entitles you to prebook FP+ for the day. But you don't have to use that ticket to enter the park in order to use it to enter FP+ attractions.

so, you're getting 'free' fastpasses under that scenario? you're getting and using fastpasses as a result of a ticket that isn't being decremented/impacted in any way?

Correct. The ticket is generating FPs that can be used in the park.

The ticket does not have to be "removed from the MagicBand.
(There are no tickets "on" ANY MagicBand, anyway.)
Nothing is ever "put onto" or "taken off of" any MagicBand.**

Regardless, if he does not go to any of the parks, his ticket will remain new and unused.

If you want the ticket put onto a flat plastic ticket, that can be done at any ticket booth or Guest Relations.
However, that ticket ("his" ticket) will remain usable on both that flat ticket -AND- his MagicBand.

If that ticket is never used to enter a park, it can be saved and used by anyone in the future.
And... even if that ticket is never used to enter a park, any FP+ reservations made
with it can be accessed by anyone holding that ticket or his MB.
--------------------------------------

** Just to keep things as clear as possible-

There is no reservation info, or ticket info, or credit card info,
or FP+ info "put onto" a MagicBand.

A MagicBand just contains (and weakly "transmits") a unique serial number that is used to access the information that is stored in your MyDisneyExperience computer file.

The MagicBand works like the combination to a locked safe, or a key to a locked door.

The MB, itself, is not the file of info or the container of the info.
The MB just unlocks the file of info, allowing it to be accessed from your MDE account when needed.

Thank you for explaining! I understand how tickets and MB's work together much better now. Still can't quite understand why Disney doesn't link FP usage to park entry, but that's probably because I'm used to the old system where you couldn't get a paper FP with a park ticket unless that ticket had been used to enter the park that day.

It works. Did it 2 weeks ago. Sister and nephew got sick, couldn't go on our last minute trip, my SIL and I callously brought their magic bands and rode everything twice. (It was a non-refundable room. I will not be judged!!!)

You did nothing wrong. They probably paid a lot for those tickets they never used.

Totally agree w pps. It would be like anyone who wanted to pay for two or three WDW tickets just to get the extra 3 FPs per person! (This would be an extraordinary amount of $$ but hey, some people might think it's worth it!)
