Question about soft openings

So when an attraction is in a soft opening stage, is it typically open at rope drop or is it just randomly opened for a few hours at some point during the day?

If it's only open at some point during the day, will a CM in the park be able to tell us when it might open?

We're rope droppers who are hoping to ride the Mine Train on our upcoming trip in late April. It's looking increasingly like we'll be there during the soft opening phase (but before the official grand opening) so we presumably won't be able to reserve a FP+ for this. We'd ideally like to avoid waiting in a long line, if possible.

Your primary hope is checking with CMs by the attraction itself. Soft means it may be open or closed at any time.

It is impossible to say. When a ride is in soft open there is no guarantee it will be open at all. It could be open all day, be open for a few hours then close, go through open/close/open/close patterns, or never open. There is just no way to know on any given day. They'll typically have a cast member posted at the entrance when it is closed, but they may or may not be able to reveal any information to you.

I remember when Test Track was in its very long soft open phase. It would often open for just an hour or two in the afternoon, but then be closed the rest of the day. That went on for months.
