I am doing a sewing project but don't know that much about sewing (just basic stuff). I read that the machine should be oiled periodically with sewing macine oil; Can WD-40 or a 3-in-one oil be used in place of that or does it have to be specifically oil made for sewing machines?

TIA!

Laura

I usually put a drop in every time I use the machine. Sewing machine oil is mineral oil. It's inexpensive and a bottle lasts forever. I wouldn't try WD40, just because it would probably overload the area. You really only need one drop.

::yes:: Skip the WD-40.

Mineral oil/sewing machine oil is completely different from WD-40, it is much lighter. WD-40 will get "gummy", will be easier to burn and could severely damage your machine.

After you oil your machine run a piece of scrap fabric through to clean out any excess oil so it doesn't stain your project.
