Question about Segway Tour

For those, who have taken this tour, I know the first hour of the tour is learning to ride the Segway indoors and then you move outdoors, but did you get an opportunity to ride them around World Showcase solo, or do you have to stay as a group the entire tour?

You will stay with the group for the entire tour. There is a spot in the back of World Showcase that they block off, so you have a wide area, and you can ride around there, but you are still not "by Yourself" at any time.

I know the first part of the tour is "inside". Are you on the Segway learning inside? At what point do you actually get to get on the Segway?

We have booked the tour.

Is it easy to ride one? Can everyone do this? I'm afraid I won't be able to ride the segway. I do not know why I'm worried but I am.

I do not have any physical restrictions or anything like that, but am worried that I won't be able to do it.

Any info on this would ease my mind.

Thanks in advance. :earsgirl:

You watch a safety video first then you get your helmet and they put you on the Segway. Your inside for an hour then you go outside. For the first hour you on the Segway about 45 mins. The CM's stay with you. It was pretty easy learning how to use it. You have to learn how to balance. Once I but too much pressure on my toes and started going to fast. This was over by China. It was kinda of funny but I was a little scared, I thought I was not going to be able to stop. Once I put pushed back on my heels I slowed right down. No one in my group really had too much trouble. We were all different ages. It was a lot of fun would do it again in a minute.

I have added a picture of us on our Segway's. The CM will take a picture for you - your not allowed to use video or a camera when operating the Segway.

My husband and I took this tour last November. Here's a description of our experience:

We showed up for the second tour of the day (at 9:15 - the first is at 8:15 I believe) at Guest Relations in Epcot, got our nametags, and were guided to the training room. Once inside, we were given helmets and had to watch a safety video. After that, we were shown to our individual Segways and spent the next 30-45 minutes learning how to maneuver on them, such as stand in place (very hard) and go through an obstacle course, go through tight spaces, etc. Once everyone stopped bumping in to each other, we headed out to the World Showcase.

The WS doesn't open until 11AM, so most of our tour was unpopulated except for the 10 of us and the 3 tour guides. We went through each country, stopping to hear interesting trivia as well as go through the obstacles in each country (such as the bridges in China and the columns in Italy).

Outside of Italy, we stopped for around 10 minutes to take pictures of Spaceship Earth from across the lagoon, use the restroom, or show off the tricks we'd just learned. We completed the rotation around the world and then rode back into the training room. By this time, the WS was open, so we ran into many people on the way back, all of whom wanted to know where they could rent the Segways.

It was a lot of fun. However, you are basically standing still for over an hour, so if you're not used to it, make sure you've stretched your calf muscles and are wearing comfortable shoes.

I believe there is a safety video and a "fitting of the helmets" that takes about the first ten minutes, but then you are on the Segway for most of the rest of the first "inside" hour, learning to go forward, backward, in circles, up and down inclines, etc. There is a large room set up with safety cones, etc and there is room for the ten of you to practice one at a time and all together. You think you won't ever be able to do it at first, but you just need a little time to convince yourself that you can balance, and then the amazing technical part of the Segway takes over and you fall in love with it. It really doesn't take very long to get the hang of it - nothing like learning to ride a bike. I would think almost anyone could learn in about ten or fifteen minutes. It's the absolute most fun!!!!

They are amazingly easy to learn to ride. Just press down with your toes to go forward and back on your heels to go backwards. The harder/softer you press, the faster/slower you go, but you never go faster than about 5 mph, I think. There's a ring on one handle that contols left and right. Within ten minutes, everyone in our group was doing just fine. You'll have a great time - its a blast!!

Thank you for all of the great replies and information. We already have the tour book for my husband and me for our August trip. I am really looking forward to this tour. I think my husband and I will have a blast :hyper2:

To book the tour, you need to call WDW directly. It's either 407-WDW-PLAY or 407-WDW-TOUR (can't remember if the second one is a real number.)

how long does the tour last? and how much does it cost? i *know* dh would love this... i'm thinking maybe the kids and i could do some of future world that dh doesn't care for (the body wars, mission space, etc! you know, the fun stuff! LOL!) while he does the tour... is it still fun if you don't have someone that you know with you?

I booked a tour for DH and a friend who is visiting soon.
AP holders get a 15% discount. WITH the discount I paid $136.01 for two adults. I was told the tour lasts two hours.

Booked it and paid $136.01 for 2 adults. I used the AAA discount. I am so excited. We are taking the tour April 12th.

My bf loved the tour.. I didnt really like it. I was so nervous the whole darn time that I wasnt even having fun. There are some dips/turns in WS that just made me kind of uncomfortable. It was a neat experience though, and Im glad we did it. My bf would love to do it again.

You'll love it! We used our AAA membership and got a 15% discount. You will spend almost 2 hours standing on the HT and your legs can get tired if you are not relaxed so...... Take a deep breath, relax and enjoy the ride!!!! These HT's only do 5 mph, not 12 mph like the regular ones, and it's almost impossible to fall off. Stopping, starting and turning is easy and you'll have it down pat before leaving Innoventions. Sure, you'll be nervous for a little while but that will pass as you cruise around the WS. Enjoy your tour! :cool1:

Would love to try this tour with DD. She is just 16 - does not have driver's license yet - do they require photo id to prove age? I don't really want to carry her passport into the park. Thank you!

I believe the age limit is 18, and the weight limit is 250 lbs.
