I was told to carry the kids' birth certificates with me to show for ID since they are under 18. Is this standard practice now and where all will I have to show them?

I'm worried about something happening to them, getting torn, wet or lost, in other words.

You shouldn't need them. It might help to have them, but there's no requirement. Try carrying a copy.

We have 3 children, have made numerous trips to WDW and other locations in the US, and have never needed birth certificates.

Hi DudeDisney, and welcome to the DIS!

I don't know why you would need them. At the airport they don't check IDs of minors. You certainly wouldn't need the birth cetificates at WDW.

Why would we be told that if we don't have to? I did call Delta airlines but they said it must be an airport thing.

Do I need to check with the local airport?

You only need them if you're getting a special youth fare, infant fare or if one of your kids is a "lap" baby. Minors don't need ID.

You don't have an airport or location listed. I assume you're not coming from a foreign country.

It never has been the standard since we first flew with our kids in 1990. We fly with them regularly--almost always on Delta--and we have never been asked for ID for them, either before or after the terrorist attacks.

Well, I'm glad I posted then. I was about to panic since I didn't want to have to carry around original documents on a trip! I still don't know why the person told me that. They are frequent Disney visitors and since they told me I'd need the birth certificates I figured they knew best but my kids are school age. :confused3

Thanks for setting me straight...
