Question about SCAL and CDS

Dh surprised me with a new laptop for Christmas. I would like to install CDS and SCAL on the laptop so that I can take my cricut and the laptop to crops with me. I have the installation cd's for both programs but I am nervous about updating either program and loosing my ability to cut with SCAL or if SCAL will even work on the laptop.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I have SCAL2 on both laptop & desktop
CDS only on the desktop but haven't used it in forever so I don't know if the updates will goof up the SCAL or not - afraid to try myself since I'll rather have SCAL over CDS

I did go into CDS & put the carts I didn't own in a new folder so they didn't come up & that makes it alot quicker to open - just wish I wasn't afraid to use it
