How far in advance did you send out STDs? I'm especially interested to hear when UK Disbrides sent them out :)

TIA :flower3:

Not a UK bride, but we sent ours out last week, so a little less than a year in advance. We would have sent them earlier, but DF's sister's wedding was in the end of August and we didn't want to take the focus off their day.

Generally, if there is travel involved, the sooner you tell people the better. They may have strict vacation policies at work or need to save up.

Once I get my day confirmed, which will be in Dec of this year, I will be sending the STD's in January. I want to give everyone a chance to make arrangements, especially with my wedding being so close to a major holiday, Christmas.

Good to know...a friend told me 6 months...guess she was wrong. October bride, so we will mail them early Nov!! :thumbsup2

We mailed ours out a good year in advance so everyone knew about it and could start thinking about if they were coming or not, start making travel arrangements, etc.

Very smart...we just put down deposit on the house we're renting for our ceremony & reception. We'll wait till after 10/10 to mail our Save the dates. Ceremony is 10/10/10, perfect for us, since we started dated 6/6/06!! :)

For a destination wedding I think sending out STD's at the 12-10 month mark is fine. It gives your guests enough time to decide whether they can go.

Sorry, seeing STD's just cracked me up!! :lmao:

We sent ones to our family about 14 months in advance (I had already made them, and well didn't want them sitting around) Once we sign our LoA (in a couple of weeks) I'll start mailing them out to friends who I don't want to get the Disney mailed ones. Our families will get the Disney one as well so they can confirm the right date.

We sent ours out the end of July for our wedding Oct 2010. We asked that people let us know if they think they will be able to attend by the end of September. This is so that we can decide if we need a bigger place to hold the reception. I want the Attic but if we have too many people we may have to think about having it somewhere larger.

I have a lot of overseas and international travelers for our VR, it is a year and a half away, but we have already personally contacted them by phone and explained them what we are planning to start easing them into the idea.

Once we get our date we will send the save the dates at the year mark and the invitations as soon as we have all particulars like room blocks, etc in contract form.

So far the feedback has been great, everybody is very happy that I gave them such a long time to plan, the only downside "Well now we have no excuse to not make it don't we! ;)" :rotfl2: I love my friends and family, they are a riot.

In my experience 8-12 months in advance is the norm, but for destination weddings, especially for guests traveling abroad I would say as soon as your date is set, why not send them out! Better to give guests more time to plan and save up for the trip!

Thankyou for the replies :flower3:

The thing is we had May 2011 in our minds, but due to our current financial situation we've had to push the date back a year :sad2: So it's now May 2012. A couple of our guests have already said they can't afford it, so I want to send them out with enough time for people to save up - especially as we are coming from England. Obviously sending them now is too early, I was thinking maybe May next year, that way people have two full years to save up...

I'm still gonna order them though even if I can't send them yet ;)

I'm not a UK-bride either, but my fiance is a UK-Groom! We're getting married in the US, but not Disney, and we just mailed out the save-the-dates to the UK guests this month and our wedding is August 2010 (so, eleven months in advance). I plan to mail out the save-the-dates for our USA families at Xmas time with the Xmas cards to kill 2 birds with one stone. Not sure if the timing is right on the USA end, but my future parents-in-law said to get the UK save-the-dates out ASAP so we got on it right away.

So sorry this is a bit off topic...But did you guys use the ones that disney provides? Or make your own and not use them....I just asked if they were going to be getting rid of them and they are not. So now i have an idea of what i wanted to do but then free STD...well not free but already made up ones.....:confused3 i just dont know

We're doing both. Our family and close friends will get both. Those we work with and our family wants invited are just getting the Disney ones. Mainly because I hand made my STDs (hehe) and didn't want to make them for those that wouldn't appreciate them.

We will probably use both. We just sent out ones that we made with a newsletter but I think the disney one will have information on how to book rooms in our room block.
