question about "room only"

We have booked a package directly through Disney for our last 5 trips. We are in the planning stages for our next trip for Summer 2013 and are thinking of purchasing it piece by piece. I don't think we'll get the DDP this time and will probably book our room through AAA and maybe tickets with a mousesavers code or whatever turns out to be cheapest.
Since we've never booked items separately before I have a few questions.
1. Can we get our tickets put onto our room key so we have it all together like we're used to?
2. Will we still be able to charge merchandise and food to our room with a KTTW card?
3. If we buy tickets separately do they come to us in the mail? If so, and we are able to put them on our KTTW do we do that at check-in?

Thanks for your help.

2. Yes you can add a credit card to your KTTW card at check-in.

How are you going to order your tickets? I think, yes, they will be mailed to you. I also think it is possible to add them to you KTTW card once you are there. Ask at your resort when you check in.

Yes, you can add your tickets onto your KTTW (room) card. And your tickets will be mailed to you from places like Undercover Tourists.

I'm not sure that the "check-in desk" can add your tickets. You may have to step over to the concierge desk.

I always start out with a room only, I like the cancellation freedom this gives me as my husband works ER and there is always a chance that we may not get the requested days off. You dimply pay one nights room fee and you're set, balance due on arrival. You can purchase your tickets through AAA, they actually give you activated tickets at your local office, no need to trade vouchers or anything. Savings is minimal, usually only about $5 per ticket but no waiting for them to arrive nd you can get them as you have the $$, sometimes this freedom helps. They will also refund unused tickets, this an be a lifesaver. We had a friend of my daughter set to go with us one trip. Her mom went with me to AAA and purchased her ticket. Before our trip she began having uncontrolled seizures and had to cancel. I was set to purchase the ticket from Mom but AAA said that she coud get a complete refund with the receipt. You can purchase dining up to like 3-5 days before your trip and add it.

Since the OP is booking room-only, I just wanted to mention that adding the dining plan would require switching a room-only to a package with at least a 1-day ticket. Any discounts on the room-only may be difficult to retain during the switch as it is a cancel and re-book.

Do you get your tickets added to the kttw card? If so, at the resort?

Yes, you will still have charging privileges. It's the same whether you have a package or room-only reservation. You will need to provide a credit card at check-in and the you'll be all set.

The DDP must be added at least 3 days prior to arrival, but since the OP is talking about a room only reservation, adding the dining plan would require the room only to be cancelled/refunded and a package booked, requiring payment in full if done less than 45 days prior to arrival. Plus a 1 day base ticket would be required for the DDP.

Just a note, when I tried to get WDW tickets here on the west coast last November, AAA was unable to do this. Even the Disney store at the local mall was unable to sell me a 10 day ticket (the most they had was a 7 day ticket for WDW.) I ended up buying the ticket through Undercover tourist, received a voucher in the mail and then activated it at the back gate to Epcot my first night. I also had purchased one AP from WDW and received a voucher from WDW in the mail for that, we activated that at the back gate of Epcot as well. We had the dinning plan (no need to purchase a 1 day ticket as we were on an AP package) and based on the information I read over in the attractions forum I chose not to try to add the park tickets to the room card as I read that this could mess up the dinning credits, plus I was thinking of upgrading the 10 day ticket to an annual pass (which I did do.) - but this shouldn't be a concern to OP, as they are not doing a dinning plan this time.
