So it is my understanding that the keys are linked to a credit/debit card, right? So that means that if my kids are out at the parks on their own, they will be able to purchase food/stuff with their room keys and it will be charged to the card?

When you check in, they ask which keys you would like charging privileges on. Just tell them you don't want it on the kids.

We always let the kids have charging privileges, it was great for when they went off on their own.

They had a credit limit (imposed by us..not disney..lol) for the time they were on their own...they could spend that on whatever they wanted..lol. They always had a blast. Our only requirement was, they had to stick together. They ate, shopped, went on more rides.

Good learning experience for them, staying within a daily budget.

We did this with our 2 teenagers. They were able to be gone all day without carrying any money. They could charge a soda or anything. They carried a cell phone to reach me at any time. They would call me to ask if they could get a drink or anything. I loved it. I hate them carrying too much money so it really is a fantastic perk offered by WDW - another reason we stay on site. It's a reason we haven't stayed at Swan/Dolphin.
