What is it? :rotfl2: Is it like Tapioca?? I love tapioca....Everyone says how good it is, but I am nervous to try it. TIA!

I was a little disappointed in the Rice Cream after all the hype...it's just rice pudding, albeit very good and light rice pudding!

We really love the Rice Cream, it's a pudding type rice pudding with strawberry sauce, almost like jam.

Rice cream is found in the Norway bakery. It is creamier than rice pudding and has no rice. There is strawberry topping on top and is to die for!!!! It cost $2 and change for a small cup and worth every penny. I tried it at the food and wine festival last week!

So for those of us who have never had rice pudding or tapioca...what would you compare it to?? This is a treat I've always been tempted to try but just haven't had the courage yet.

From the title I had hopes it would be some kind of milk/dairy free treat sense many of the alterntives are (soy ice cream, rice milk.)

Seeing as we (DD and I) will have to be dairy free still on our next visit I was hoping it was an alterntive for us.

Anyone know if there is milk in it? I would guess yes.

It's like pudding.

A creamy sweet dessert. My DBF hates it though because he has "texture issues"...lol. He can't stand anything somewhat hard being in anything that is "supposed to be" soft.

Like mashed potatoes with lumps....he think's that is treason against the spud...everything has to be puree :)

So it is a little bit of harder stuff in there...not crunchy mind you, but cooked rice...so it's ...well its'....um...

rice cream is to pudding what smashed potatoes are to potato puree.

Help at all?

I tried. ;)

There is heavy cream and milk in rice cream.

Here's the recipe from the Food and Wine Festival for rice cream if anyone is interested:

3/4 cup white rice, small grain
1 cup water
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 cups milk
3/4 heavy cream
1 1/2 teaspoons sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Strawberry Sauce
1 cup strawberry preserves
1/2 cup water
1/2 teaspoon lemon juice

In a medium saucepan, combine the rice with the water and salt, bring the liquid to a boil, reduce the heat and simmer for 15 minutes. Add milk and cook for 30 minutes, stirring frequently, until rice is tender and of thick consistency. Set aside to cool.

Whip the cream with the sugar and vanilla until soft peaks form

Gently fold the cream into the rice and transfer the pudding to a large serving bowl or into 6 individual ramekins. Chill in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.

Combine all the ingredients for the strawberry sauce into a blender and mix for 1 minute

Serve the chilled pudding with the sauce on the side.

Thanks...that actually does help. :rotfl:

I love rice pudding. Can't stand the strawberry sauce, though.

There usually is milk or cream in rice pudding, sometimes I think eggs too if you're making rice custard. My nephew can't have dairy or eggs and he couldn't get rice cream.

I love rice cream and have made it at home. It is always better at EPCOT. I plan on having it at least twice this coming week.

Can you get the rice cream without the strawberry stuff on top?
You sure can. I hate Strawberry's and ask for it plain all the time.
