My husband and 3 year old daughter and myself will be going to WDW March 18-21. I have reservations at the Coronado Springs resort. I have read many posts about people getting upgrades. What are the upgrades for? Are they free? What would upgrade to or ask to be upgraded to? A different view?? If you dont know which unit you are in until you get there-- do you ask for upgrades upon arrival? Any tips on what to ask for and when?

Thanks so much.

Generally upgrades from the moderates do not happen. Many times people get upgraded at AKL and sometimes at some of the Epcot area resorts. Upgrades are never guaranteed and often do not happen. It never hurts to ask though. At chekin just ask if any upgrades are available. Good Luck

I am hoping that I can ask for one when I get there--- I am new to this and just wanted to make sure that I didn't everlook something or some "perk" that could make the stay a little nicer. Do they do anything if it is your anniversary while you are visiting that resort??

TIA

Floridagirl,
You will need to tell the CM upon arrival that this is an anniversary trip for you. There is no gaurantee that they will do anything special for you, but I have heard of many people getting special treatment because of it.

Also, I would not ask for an upgrade upon arrival unless you are prepared to pay for one. Some upgrades could be complimentary, (like if they know it is your HM or anniversary).

But some people ask if there are any upgrades available when they arrive, because maybe the room or view that they wanted wasn't available at the time of booking. When you ask for this upgrade right away, the CM's may think that you are prepared to pay extra.
I hope you all get very nice rooms, but would hate to see you get charged for something that you thought was complimentary! Good Luck!

An upgrade isn't a perk that's just for the asking --- it's available sometimes, and certainly worth inquiring about, but don't get your heart set on it and be disappointed.

Smile when you check in, ask politely, act enthusiastic, mention your anniversary, and don't act as if you expect to be entitled to a complimentary upgrade. Some people have great luck (or pixie dust) and have been automatically upgraded when they arrive. Unless a CM informs you that there's an upgrade available for xx$$ more, it's a complimentary upgrade. They have to inform you of any change in rate ---- and I can't ever recall reading anyone say they were charged more and didn't know it. If the price isn't something you care to pay, just decline the offer. No big deal and don't be embarassed for asking. Lots of people ask.

The upgrade is generally to a room with a nicer view. If you have standard view booked, you might get a water view. Rarely, it could be to a suite or concierge (which isn't available at your resort). If you already have a water view, I don't believe there's too much else to upgrade to. There ARE some 'suites' that are a bedroom plus an ajoining room, but it's much less likely to get that kind of an upgrade.

Good luck! It just might happen --- and you can certainly have a spectacular trip whether it does or it doesn't.

In all my years of going to WDW and staying on property, I have been upgraded only twice....

I've never been upgraded! Possibly because I have NEVER asked. I always book what I want. That way I am not stressing over something that I probably wouldn't get anyway!

When I got upgraded at AKL, I was actually asked if it was okay that they did so. They took our two rooms and combined us into the 2 bedroom suite. It was nice and a complete surprise. I did not ask for anything. In fact, I was booked there under the extremely cheap rate from being displaced from POFQ last summer. I wouldn't ask but rather be completely surprised *if* it were ever to happen.

I would not stress over asking or even think that it would be possible for an upgrade. The most you are going to have is a view upgrade and at a moderate or value resort, this is nice but it would not make or break your trip.

upgrades are done when they oversell on a catagory. Either from convention sales or when occupancy forcast are low they would rather have heads in bed and have the cheap rates at AKL.
