Say I wanted to go down with just the kids for a few days, then my DH joins us, or friends join us. In my one friend's timeshare that we joined them for a couple years ago, they were allowed to book a studio for a week, then opened up the one bedroom for the other week. Does Disney do this, so you don't actually have to move rooms? I could have the studio for a few days, then add the 1br to have 2br? Or do they make you move? It'd be simpler to not move, but I don't know if they do that. Any one ever done that? I was also thinking, the weekend is more points, so we could make do with a studio over the weekend, then add the other unit. Thanks!

You will have to move. There is really no way to work that out. Those ressies would be two seperate entities. You would have a one bedroom ressie followed by a 2 bedroom ressie. In order for your scenario to work you would 1) have to be put in a lock off unit 2) the connecting studio would have to be free when you upgrade to a 2 bedroom unit. The only thing that will happen is they will move your luggage for you if you want. DVC resorts are far to busy and it is far to complex a system to start doing this. I wish I had better news for you but you'll have to move and more than likely wait until 4:00p.m for the next room. I could be wrong here, hopefully others will way in. I have a guess as to why you saw this happen at another timeshare resort: It was probably a by the week timeshare. Your friends probably own a 2 weeks in a 2 bedroom. They probably chose to use only half of the 2 bedroom for week one and then the full 2 bedroom for the second half of the trip. Doing this would give them extra time in say the studio part for a future trip. Marriott owners do this a lot, stretching a 2 bedroom one week ownership to 2 weeks staying in one half one week and then the other half the second week. Where is Dean when we need him?

It is certainly a request, but it is not guaranteed. With the high occupancy rates of DVC resorts the logistics of the room "next door" being available on any given day are "iffy." I would plan on having to move, if it works out that you can get the room next door it is pixie dust. I would check with the front desk on the morning of the switch and ask if the 1 bedroom unit next door to you will become available that day. If so, they may (and again it is simoky luck) be able to block the one bedroom and leave you in the studio. Either way, since they are two reservatons, you'll need to do a check-out/ check-in and get new keys.

I have done this at BWV. DW and I had a studio for a few nights, then some friends that live in Florida came and we got the connected 1 BR (made a 2BR) for a few nights, then back to the studio. We never had to move, didn't even have to go down and get new keys, they slid them under the door. I had 3 reservations, Studio, 2BR then back to a Studio. All linked, it worked out just fine.
GREAT service!!!

We did this at OKW in January. It required two separate reservations. And a lot of coordination with Disney starting with when we made the reservation right up to the day we made the one bedroom a two bedroom. If it had been real busy it would not have happened. Even so, we had a very difficult time getting into our original one bedroom because the other guests did not want to leave and the resort was full. We had to check out and check back in again. New room keys, new parking pass, etc.

I have done this several times where we had a 1 BR for a few days then expanded to the 2 BR. We had to do a new check in and get new keys but it worked in every case. If you try this make sure you don't have a dedicated unit reserved, that you place the request on both reservations, that you repeat your request on check in and that you get down to the front desk on the changeover day. Still, there's no guarantee it will work out so you should be prepared to move just in case. If you're not, get a separate complementing unit (studio or 1 BR) and how you can get them together or close. It will cost a few more points though.
