Hello everyone,

I am getting ready to rent some points for an upcoming vacation. I have a couple of questions about the correct process, just so I make sure that I'm not about to get scammed. Can anyone tell me how the rental process works? For example, I have a gentleman that says he is willing to rent me the points I need. He says that he will make the reservation in my name, but that the reservation confirmation gets sent to him, as the DVC member and not to me...is that true? Also, he states that he will then scan the reservation and e-mail it to me and then I will need to remit 25% payment to him. It sounds legit, but I just wanted to check with the "experts" first.

Any assistance would be great!!!

Thanks,
Neal

The reservation confirmation is sent to the DVC member not the renter what we do is then mae a copy of the confirmation to keep and mail or fax the original to the renter. I also include the 800 number for MS they usually are more than happy to confirm a res number for a renter to ease their mind. We also require 50% up front and the remainder 4 months prior to travel if the trip is booked that far in advance.

We have rented twice from these boards. Yes it is true that the confirmation is sent to the DVC owner, even if the ressie is in your name. The ressie will be in your name and you can call member services to check that it was made in your name. I would ask for the original to be sent to me, and ask for the confirmation# before sending the deposit and call member services before sending the deposit. This is how we did it both times. This last time we sent half at the beginning via paypal and the remainder 30 days before via paypal. The first time we sent a money order half at the time the ressie was made and the remainder 30 days before the trip. Both times we delt with wonderful honest people. They gave me their full name, address, home# and cell#'s!

It sounds like the deal you are doing is legit. If you are renting from someone on these boards I would check their profil and past posts. I did that and also ask if they are an ebayer. You could check their feedback.

It is a leap of faith and you both take a chance, but I have only heard a horror story once on these boards. You should do fine.

After renting twice we finally took the plunge and bought into DVC, those larger rooms will spoil you!!
