I don't know if this is the right board for this but here goes? let's say I need 300 points but can only rent 200 how will I pay for the remaining points I need? Do I pay rack rates from disney or the remainder price in points converted to cash? Did that make sense? :confused3

Are you a member? If you are, you can only transfer in once a year. If you are not, points are worthless to you. You'll have to find a member to make the entire reservation for you or you can find multiple members to make a few days at a time for you. Then you have to have all the reservations linked and hope you don't have to move.

Or you pay cash to CRO for the remaining days at rack rate unless you can get a discount - like FL resident or AP or AAA. And hope you don't have to move since DVC and CRO reservations cannot be linked.

If you need 300 points for a rental and you only get 200 then you would need the person who made your reservations on points to make the cash reservations so that they can be treated as one reservation. This assumes that you are not a DVC member looking for a point transfer. If two seperate members make a reservation then they are treated as two reservation in the system so you would have to check out, check in and possible change rooms. If you rented points and then you made a cash reservation through Disney they will also be treated a two seperate reservations. All this assumes that you want to stay at the same resort for the entire stay.

Actually Plutofan and I disagree on one point:

Assuming you are a renter (non-member) you could rent points from more than one owner, and if they link the reservations (even accross different memberships) you will not have to move or even do a 'ceremonial' check-in and out when the ressies switch owners.

I have done this with my own multiple memberships and with renters who have rented from another owner as well as me.

Also, if you are not a member, the DVC owner could book cash nights for you, possibly with the 25% member discount (if available for your dates), and again by linking them, you would not have to move or have multiple check-ins/outs.

Finally, if you did go for a CRO rate, depending on the CM at the resort when you check-in, they (if they know how) can link your cash, CRO and point nights. I did this 3 years ago, and did not have to move or even check-in/out for the CRO night. However, others have reported being forced to move rooms and/or walk to the desk and check-out, then re-check-in (new KTTW were cut) but they did not change or even have to vacate their current room. (I expected to have to perform the 'ceremonial' check-out and back in, but the CM at the front desk, assured me I would not have to (for the CRO night). I was so nervous, that I walked down to the front desk the morning of my CRO night, and checked with a CM at check-in, who said, "Nope these dates have been linked, no check-out/check-in is necessary".

I would recommend renting from more than one owner as a probable better value, excluding a Friday-Saturday stay, when I usually will use my Member Disocunt if available, and save my points for the weekdays.

Best of luck!

According to the rules, the member has to occupy the room with the member discount.
