Question about renting points

We've never rented points before but I am considering it for our next trip. I'm hoping someone can recommend a good company. Also how early do you have to book? We are going in November bit aren't picky about resort but we do want a studio. Any tips would be appreciated!

I rented from a private person here on the DIS Rent/Trade board and had a good experience. We were arriving on 12/31, so we booked between the 7- and 11-month window when a resort was only open to DVC members who own at that particular resort. We were able to get a studio at OKW for $11/point and paid about $725 for 5 nights - much cheaper for us than getting a regular room at a Mod during the holiday season. We were happy with the OKW studio because it had 2 queen beds instead of 1 queen and 1 pull-out.

Since you're less than 7 months out, I'd just start stalking the Rent/Trade board and see if you can find something. Know your preferred resorts and how many points each one will cost for your stay so you know what to inquire about.

Hope this helps!

We've never rented points before but I am considering it for our next trip. I'm curious if anyone has rented from the DVC Rental Store and how your experience was. Or in the alternative if you can recommend a good company? Also how early do you have to book? We are going in November bit aren't picky about resort but we do want a studio. Any tips would be appreciated!

david's DVC rentals has good reviews:

you can book as early as 11 months out, depending on whether the broker has access to home resort points for the resort you are looking for.

november is very short notice in DVC terms. timeshares are not like hotels. i suspect you will have a hard time for any resort other than SSR. maybe one of the other large resorts like OKW or maybe an AKV-savanna view room if you are lucky...

We just rented for the first time for our trip in August. I used the DIS Board thread and found someone that had just what we wanted. She has been wonderful to work with.
I did resaearch on David's Vacation Club Rentals to see how many points I would need to rent. I believe people have had great experiences with them but I was able to save quite a bit of money renting directly from the owner.

Okay, first of all, you're asking about a business that has been banned from the disboards. I suggest that you remove them from your post. David's ( http://www.dvcrequest.com/ ) is the DVC rental company that sponsors the disboards.

I rented points privately before I purchased DVC. I personally knew the owner that I dealt with. My goal was to experience a couple of DVC stays before I committed thousands of dollars to a purchase.

I suggest that you start looking right away. November is very popular with DVC owners. The Food & Wine Festival and then the holiday decorations are a big attraction as well as the relatively low number of points needed to book at that time of year. It pretty much means that you need to get a request in early. Even large resorts like SSR and OKW run out of studios early on. You may not be able to find a place with a studio available for an entire week.
