I am new to renting points and I am looking for some help. I am interested in renting points but I am afraid to get scammed. What should I look for to make sure the renter is not scamming me? I read "a sad story" and it really scared me. Also, after I rent points are there any additional fees that I need to pay like taxes, etc.?

You don't have to be scared...just use a little caution when searching for someone to rent from. Although the recent incidents have been a bit unnerving, they are not the norm. Find someone you are comfortable with, that has enough history on these boards that you can look at some of their previous posts and get a feel for what type of person they are. Also, if they offer any type of payment terms that you are uncomfortable with, then don't rent from them. You can also ask for references, but the reality of it is that you really don't have any proof that the person you are communicating with actually rented from them. So give it a try, just don't do it blindly. :goodvibes

There are no taxes on the rental.

Be sure to review the stickies at the top of the Rent/Trade board as there are many good points in there.

Make sure you are comfortable in all aspects of the transaction. I believe 99.9 % of renters/rentees here on the DIS are good honest folk & have concern for the other party involved. The .1% who are not will send out red flags. Follow your intuition. You'll LOVE DVC once you try it!!!

get a contract.

if you still aren't sure get them to do a 3-way call to MS to either make your reservations or verify it.

they will need to call MS before calling you. MS requires information from us - member number, SSN - that I don't think anyone would be comfortable sharing with a stranger.
