I posted this on the Rent Points thread and just noticed I shouldn't have posted it there! SORRY! Anyway, I am already booked with Disney for our trip ****** with the dining plan. I just received an email from Mousesavers with a link to a DVC points rental company (not sure if I can post on here what company that is.). I priced renting points through that site for BLT for the dates we are going and the price was $1600. I added that price to the cost of the dining plan and my tickets (I have to buy my own, correct?) and the price came out to be about the same as what I am currently booked at for CSR with my tickets and the DP. IS THIS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE??? I have always wanted my DD's first trip to be at a monorail resort, and if this seems correct I will switch to rent points. I have NEVER rented points, I have always just booked through Disney. I am a little nervous about renting points as I don't want to get scammed, etc. I have just always felt more comfortable booking directly through Disney. Can someone please give me advise on renting points and let me know if the deal I found sounds right? My budget for our trip is $4000. I would be so grateful for any help!

Thanks!

We have rented frequently, but have never used David. He is a sponsor of DIS and has had great reviews. Yes, renting does save you quite a bit of money, but you do not have control over the reservation until you check in. Every question and change has to go through the person you are renting from. So, this does require a bit of trust on your part--and on the part of the renter. If you go to the DVC Resort threads, at the top of the page is David's banner...click on that and there is a lot of information about him and how renting through him works. Renting is a great way to stay in deluxe accommodations for more than half the price of booking through CRO. Good luck!!

Like anything in life you need to do your research, read the stickies about renting over at the rent trade board and do some Google searches on DVC renting.

We rented before. We didn't know the lady, as she was a family friend (as is friends of someone in my family). I never met her, but spoke on the phone. I gave her the dates we were traveling and where we wanted to stay. She had to make the reservation. Because we were within a 3 month window of traveling, she had to trust us that we were going to go on our scheduled trip AND pay her. If we didn't follow through, she would've possibly lost her points. We paid her, but at the time, we had no way of confirming or not whether we actually had reservations. Once she sent our confirmation number I was able to look it up online (there is a link from the mousesavers.com site for the DVC reservation confirmation page).

Point here is renting CAN be a great way to get better accommodations than you would get from disney for less $, but it takes trust on both ends.....Renter and Rentee, to make it happen. I would think a site like David's provides some security. You are paying more through them then if you rented from someone off of the rental boards here. Renting gave us our introduction to DVC and here we are a year later in the middle of a purchase.

While you can legally fit in the size villa at the location you have chosen, you won't want to pack them in. It is way too small. Plus the view you have chosen was probably gone several months ago. Most members book their trips at 11 months out, especially for the view you want. Plus with the holiday weekend that you are spanning, it could be difficult to get that resort.

I understand the caution, but renting from a DVC member (or from a well-known broker) is usually a pretty smooth transaction. You do have to understand the differences (like, you won't get daily mousekeeping or extra towels, and won't have the flexibility to move your dates around if your situation changes), but you are right in your assessment that you can get a better room for the same or less money if you do your homework.

We rented from members a couple of times--then we were hooked and bought into DVC! We have also rented to others when we've had extra points, and have never had a problem. As mentioned above, there is a trust issue involved, so make sure to get references. A contract is a great idea too, as it safeguards both parties. Good luck and have fun!!
