Question about renting points for SSR?

We are planning on a March 2015 vacation. We stayed at SSR last summer and really liked it. However, we are thinking about trying GF or CR for our next vacation. That being said, we can only afford it if they have a 30% off promotion at that time. I know that discounts are hard to depend on, so if there isn't a promotion, do you think we could secure a studio or 1BD villa at SSR only a few months out? We plan on going during Spring Break - so I am guessing that would be a pretty busy time of the year. I guess we could do OKW, but would prefer SSR. What I would like to do is get a reservation soon for GF and then update it once the discount comes out. If the discount doesn't come out, then we would cancel the reservation and try to rent points at SSR. Any thoughts? I don't want to rent now, because it is really too far away to put that much money into it.

I'd book a cash reservation and pray for a discount. You may not get a steep discount at CR like you would at OKW or SSR. In the past few trips we have always gotten a 30-40% discount via pin code, Disney Visa card holder code, or general public code. We chose to stay at SSR in a 2BR unit the last 4 times. This time we decided to rent points at AKV for our upcoming trip. If you do not have your dates set in stone, do not rent points. You cannot make any changes to your reservation once it's made. Many times in the past on cash reservation, we found airfare to be drastically cheaper one day ahead or behind our trip, so we changed the dates and kept our discount. This is not an option when renting points. These are all things to consider when making your decision.

I can tell you DH and I decided in late Dec/early Jan to take an anniversary adults only trip the second week of March, which was the beginning of spring break season at WDW. When we booked SSR and AKV were the only resorts available for all our nights. It's such a large resort you stand a good chance there will be availability if you wait. My other thought is, why not try to rent a studio at BLT or GFV...surely that would be cheaper than getting a standard room, even with 30% off.
